Hey guys, i been noticing people have been tinting the front side windows on their kjs and i must say i really like the look. I was thinking of doing the same. Few questions, i see some cars around town with tint and it has a pruple tinge to it, but my factory doesnt, do they have aftermarket tint that would match the factory tint? Also how much does it cost to tint 2 front windows?

purple window tint is either a custom tint (found some on ebay by looking up purple window tint). also purple tint can be a result of bad window tint that was originally black but has faded to purple due to it's cheapness. hope this helps

Generally a good tint shop can match the color of the rear or get really close. I paid about $70 US to have mine tinted, that included a sun strip across the front window. If you are looking to match the % of tint you want to use 20%. My sun strip is 5%, i never have to use my sun visors.

That purple tint is usually old, faded tint. You can ask my last T-bird and Montero about that (for about the first hour that I owned them...)

I used 3M window tint, the good stuff. Take it to a pro and dont waste your time on that cheap static cling stuff.

I got 15% on mine and they charged me 85 for 15% all around and a 5% window strip. It not legal here, but no one checks, especially since its only 15%, 2 1/2% might get you noticed though.

I think you'll find it's illegal in B.C.

(8 ) No person shall drive or operate on a highway a motor vehicle which has affixed to or placed on the windshield or a window any material that reduces the light transmitted through the windshield or window unless the material is affixed to or placed on

(a) the windshield but not more than 75 mm below the top of the windshield,

(b) a side window that is behind the driver, or

(c) the rear window if the motor vehicle is equipped with outside rear view mirrors on the left and right side of the motor vehicle.

a tip:

My local tint shop told me and the stealership also said this. When installing aftermarket window film, have the front edge of the film, ther area closest to the outside mirror, trimmed so that it doesn't completley go under the weatherstripping. Apparently the window clips that hold the window on the regulator are a poor design and the added thickness and texture of the window film binds the front edge of the window as it is going up putting stress on the window clips. They also suggest using silicone (armoural) on the weatherstripping to lube the track.

I have had 2 sets of clips installed under warrantee since my film was applied and did not know this at the time. I also apply armoural every few months to help it out.

Yea i know that rule but trust me, there are MANY cars here with front tint and apparently they dont care lol

Our CRD came with tint. Couldn't stand not being able to see out the mirrors at night. Stripped it off.

Now we can see!

(course, thats not helpful to you at all is it?)

We have a car with purple tint. Im not stupid so ammonia cleaner has never been used and we had the tint put on so I know no one else did before us. Its just cheap tint.

I got my side windows along with a strip along the windshield and I really like it. I believe 20% matches but I wouldnt tell them that, just tell them to match the back windows.

Bought my CRD used in CA and it had full 'out of stste' tint. I had to remove the tint on the front window to be legal in CA. It was light but if you (Or a policeman) were wearing polarized glasses it was obvious.

Just put 20% on mine and it looks like a perfect match to the rears.

DURING THE WINTER TIME WITH ALL THE GLARE IF I AM IN MY BRO'S CAR WITH OUT THE FRONT TINT I ALMOST HAVE TO SQUINT AT TIMES. NIGHT TIME ISNT ALL THAT BAD ITHER AS LONG AS YOU LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER

This here shows 15% on the front windows. The back windows we're factory tinted. The guy who does all my tinting used 15% for this reason...whe it is sunny out you get more light through the windshield and the front windows will look lighter than the rears with 20%. With the 15%, they look slightly darker on a cloudy day if you really look for it...I did and noticed the difference. Seeing it in the full sun...I'll be darned....matched perfect. As stated, tint that turns or starts out purple is of inferior quality. Shop elsewere. I paid $75 to have the fronts done with a liftime warranty.
