I dont know if any of you read the story some of the military members might have, About 10 days ago a story was wrote int he new york times and the stars and stripes and abc news press about a military vehicle called the mrap that was hit by an ied and had its first kia a guy named richard buress. Unfortunately that was my vehicle and he was my gunner, i just want every one to keep his wife in daughter in their prayers, he was a pretty outdoors type of guy and liked campning and canoeing, he was gonna look at a liberty for his wife when he got home or so he told me cause he thought mine looked decent. But the other two soldiers who were in it with me are fine and safe back with their families in the states. |

well im along with everyone else so far. I glad your for the mostpart unscathed. It definatlly a tough thing loosing another joe. Thats just the name of the game though. During my first deployment we lost 3 guys; all of which were to IED's. All we had were 1114 Gun Trucks. The darn things couldny stop a soda can let alone an IED. An an MRAP is a class of vehicles not model. There are so many different versions of the things so im not going to give any real information on specific models except for the ones that i have personaly used. Ive ony used 2 for certin missions while i was deployed. those are the 1117 AVS. Which im assuming is what you were in bear because their the biggest contract holder for the class 1 MRAP. I hated the thing. It was entirely too long. Couldnt turn worth a SH*T, had absolutly no visabitity of any kind. An opposite how it looked; was very vulnerable to attack. the other vehicle was a stryker. Enoght said; the thing is awsome as long as you dont roll it. I started doing a lot of research through work; after i got home; about these things because we were working on 3 different models for the army and marine corp. their only suppose to be a temporary replacement for the aging HMMWV that just cant hold up to an attack. All the different models have only one thing in common. The have a "V" shaped hull that is suppose to deflect and absorb an IED blast instead of just trying to stop it. I guess the avs only has one layer of armor around the engine compartment...... which the driver and tc sit right on. Its full of little holes like that. And no matter what your ridong in unless its an m1-a1 the gunner unfortunatlly has the lowest survivability out of the entire crew. Most of the companys; key word most; tote these thing as impervious to a blast or darn close to it. They fail to mention that until just recently none if the trucks tested passed over 70 percent of the testing it was put through. There is one that did. Now im not toting who i work for but oshkosh truch made one. Its called the bull. An it passed all testing. thats al im going to say because thats all that really matters. I feel for ya man i really do. Its really hard to loose a friend and brother. An hopefully this next year when im back in the sand I dont get stuck with some of the POS trucks rolling around right now. An possibly ill run into the little turd that built the IED and break his jaw if he decided he doenst want to shoot. |

what they really need to do is on tall vehicles like that mount a crow type gun system so the gunner can still be down in the vhicle but hey 300lbs is what we ran over and it didnt breach the passenger compatment to bad |
