Case in point, just because you have 4X4, does not mean that you are invincible! PLEASE - to all the young drivers on here, take note. It's a shame that this has to happen and it would be a horrible loss to this community if something like this happened to someone on L.O.S.T. TAKE IT EASY out there!! You're not impressing anybody by driving fast in inclement weather. Quite the contrary - you're endangering not only your life, but all of those on the road around you.

Please don't think its all young drivers. I hate when people say that ( i know you didnt mean to offend anyone). I'm 25 and am a good driver. I would much rather keep my ride than lose it by trying to impress someone by doing something stupid. Theres no sence in trying to impress someone you probable will never see again.

On the news last night there was a report about a Liberty that went off a bridge in Winnipeg. It dropped about 45 feet into the river through the ice. They got the girl out and she's in critical condition. The Liberty was totalled.
Now the city is asking why the snow was banked up against the sides of the bridge: apparently that acted like a ramp for the KJ to just drive up and over the edge.....they've since cleared the snow bank off the bridge.

That is the problem, we have these young kids that do not have the driving experience yet. they get these huge SUV's and Jeeps and they think the can drive as fast as they can on any road in any condition just because they have 4 wheel drive. 4 Wheel drive just helps you get to where you gotta go in bad weather.
People like this give all of the Jeepers a bad name.

It is sad to hear about that kid dying, but he apparently did not car about him self or others from the way he was driving in the icy and snowy weather. Because of his actions, his family will forever suffer the loss.

I wish people would understand the 4 wheel drive before they go out and do something stupid.

Just as Jersey said, it's not only young people. This can be said for any one really. You could be 40 years old and have driven street racers all your life then you decide you want a big 4wd SUV and think that you can do whatever you want because you're been used to the performance. You'll get yourself just as fast as an inexperienced driver. I'm with Jersey on this one, I'm 25 and the only accident I've been in was when some idiot ran a red light and plowed into me. I've never once come close to an accident that was my fault. At 28 though I'd hardly consider that inexperienced, 12 years of driving is plenty of experience if you ask me. It all comes down to responsibility. It's a sad loss and tragic for all parties involved.

not to be a Richard but i just dont get how you guys close the interstates when theres an inch of snow.....also how many people down there ever drive in snow? Im 19 almost 20 now and been driving in the snow for almost 6 years. Us young kids do mess around but dont include us all in that catgory haha. I feel sorry for the family but theres nothing that they can do now. It just amazes me how people who have not driven in snow feel the need to speed and not slow down.

You don't understand the meaning of hot until you get burned.

I grew up in MA, learned to driver there, and have plenty of years of driving in the snow under my belt. I moved out to San Diego a couple years ago and I must say its a different ballgame. The roads here are not the same as the areas of the country that typically get rain/snow. Our road drainage is horrible... water should not puddle up on the highway! Since it does not rain often, roads and highways tend to be a bit oily when it first rains. In the areas it does snow here, they have limited plowing capabilities and i've seen them drop sand but never salt.I find I have to use more caution driving here.

I was born and raised in Cali, you can feel sorry for me now  , and I can honestly say people out here just don't have a clue when in comes to driving in bad weather, or any kind of weather for that matter.

The first rain drop and emergency vehicles are working overtime, not to mention the imfamous "Storm Track" on the local news. And snow, holy cow, look out!! Might as well shut it down and they do. Maybe it's a good thing they do that, least people are sitting still on the road instead of being stupid.

I agree 100%!!! I've been in So Cal my whole life  and will have been driving for 20 years next week. I was fortunate enough to have been a delivery driver where I had to drive in the mountains daily for five years. This gave me plenty of opportunity to learn to respect the snow and ice on the roads. Most of the mountain folk couldn't believe that I was a "flatlander" because people down the hill can't even drive a straight line when the dew falls.

This is true that the majority of our roads are not capable of precipitation. In my area, a quarter inch of rain in one day causes half of the roads to become streams. Anything more than that and import racers need new engines :-)r .
