I can't think of the name for that seal right now.

i have the same leak on my jeep. i have been planing on getting it fix. i haven't had the time to fixed it yet. i do drive mine every day just haven't used the 4wheel that much. that shaft will not be running wile you are driving unless you put it in 4wheel. peeper has the same thing on his kj and has bought the seal i think he said it was $30. he also hasn' t fixed his ether. i also have a transfer case leak and will be fixing both at the same time soon. if you feel you can do it your self pick up a Hanes manuel at any automotive store and it will have step by step instructions in it.

i just called the dealer and they told me that it wasn't a big deal that it would cost under $50 with laber and parts to get it fixed. with my t-case leak and diff also leaking i am getting it done soon before the snow hits so i know my 4wheel drive will work 100%. they said with both resealed it would be around $100 to $120 to fix with laber and parts. thats dealer prices so i am sure it would be cheeper to fix somewhere else. i may even do it my self if i can get it on a lift. my thing is i dont have a warenty anymore. it ran out in sept.

everyone, i was taking a peak under my jeep the other day, and found that the transfer case appears to be leaking. {EDIT- Its the front diff.} I am not positive how long this has been happing but i want an opinion if i need to get it into a shop. The pictures i have were taken under the jeep under the left front tire looking front towards the transfer case. The pictures are also VERY LARGE in size for you to inspect. Thus i will not post them here just a link. Transfer case leak Let me know what you think. thanks nick

All I looked at are the 1st 2 pics because they take so long to load. In the 1st 2 pics that is NOT the transfer case. It is the front differential and it looks like the seal is bad. Hope this helps.

I agree. It's the seal where the shafts enters the diff. I can't think of the name for that seal right now. From what I've heard, on most vehicles (Jeep, Toyota, Rover) it's an inexpensive and not too tricky repair. just annoying an a bit messy. I've never been lucky enough to try it yet

I will be taking it in soon for oil change and will have them look at it and possible replace it if its covered. -nick

IF so i would think that some of your work may be covered??? i would bring it in and check if i were you... -nick

Preview Well, had it in today for a oil and lube. They took a look that the seal when it was on the hoist and the service manager called me and said that he has seen this before on other liberties but much worse. He said that its not worth doing anything to it right now because it hasn't leaked very much. He also said that they have had trouble w/ the aftermarket seals not working very well??? So we left it and i will just have to keep and eye on it. Also, not sure what warranty you guys have on yours but they said i have a 70,000 mile warranty on mine, but you have to pay a $100 deductable... Also, they rotated tires and I got to thinking about this, is it standard procedure to rotate in the spare? I peeked at my spare and it looks to have about the same tread wear that my other tires have so i think they have been..... -Nick
