Hi guys
I have a problem with my KJ, and i want your opinion.
A few days ago, i visited dealership for the regular service of my car (change oil, oil filter, etc) and installation of jeepin by al's upper control arm. While the mechanic was under my car, he told me that i have problem with the front propeller axle. The rubber located at the cv joint beside the companion flange of the transfer case, had a vent. He told me that is an USUAL PHENOMENON and a NORMAL DAMAGE    . My car, has only 38000 km. I asked him to tell me the cost, and he told me that we can't change only the rubber or the cv joint, but we must change the axle. The cost is ~ 550 € for the axle, and 100 € labor. Total 650 € for a rubber that has a vent.
Later i found, that a few KJ owners in greece had the same problem, and especially 3 of them had change it twice at 80000 km.
I want to ask if axles are in warranty. It is not a problem made by use or by dent or hit. The axle is like brand new.
Does anybody has the same problem????
Thank's in advance.
Greg.

I'm having to replace mine soon. its making all kinds of noise and is extremely annoying. The cost on the shaft seems about right for a dealership. you can but them online for around 370.00 USD, new. If your semi-handy with a wrench its not to hard to do it yourself.

I havent heard this as a very common problem, but I know of me and one other person who has had to replace it. one guy replaced his with a custom made shaft with U-joints which are serviceable, unlike CV-joints, new U-joints are less than 10 a peice, versus buying an entire new shaft. However this option would probably twice as much to do in comparison to a stock shaft...

My custom Tom Woods front CV driveshaft, new flanges and new oil seals cost me less than $500. I provided all the labor. :D I had 26,000 miles on when the front driveshaft started making noise and all the rubber looked good. I will never have to pay $370 for another replacement, just u-joints in the future. The custom driveshaft has been great so far.

So do they (Tom Woods) have all the measurements ready if someone was to order a new one. How long does it take to get? I like the idea of having u joints and since this thing will be around for a while hopefully may as well put it on my list!

Would be nice for all to see, if you post it in the Fabrication Section.

well im in the same boat; i need a new shaft and the stocker is just not going to work. Ive went through 3 already(boot on the fron cv just rips to easy and cant be replaced). I called up tom woods and they asked me to get the measurement. wasatch i know you had one made so i would like to use as much of the information that you have but i dont know if there is a difference in shaft lengths because of a manny tranny or auto tranny. IF you got your old shaft laying around could you pull the PN off of it so we could see if there the same.
