I would say the king pin bushings are worn out! Never mind most would not understand what that is

Agreed with others about the balljoints(both upper and lowers),sounds like something is all out of grease.

AHHH,it's been awhile since I have messed with kingpins,what a pain in the rear :twisted:

They are a pain for sure Troy, and in the "rear" is right, wish I had a dollar for every old farmers truck I beat my butt off on theirs to rebuild them :wink:

Where can I get moogs, and why did the ball joints fail so quickly after the recall? :evil:

I did not have this problem or sound in the morning on the way to the work. On the way back, this started. Whenever I steer I hear this squeak. I also noticed it is there when I go over bumps etc. when it is flexing and compacting, like stretching squeek. I had swaybar bushing noise before, but this time it is different. This is softer squeak, and I never had the noise on steering before. Steering fluid level is fine, just tad bit over hot level. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BHVMVnumsE

wow! idk what that is. it couldnt be a balljoint could it? its gotta be something that went bad suddenly since it wasnt there one minute and next minute it was there. hmm

I had that exact noise while cranking the wheels just as you were a while back. My left lower ball joint had collapsed. It happened all at once also. Get it checked out right away.

check your balljoint and tie rod end boots for cracks, both upper and lower. do you wheel your KJ at all?

If you had a straight front axle I would say the king pin bushings are worn out! Never mind most would not understand what that is Showing my age BUT since thats not the case have to agree with checking the lower ball joints first, bet you find it there

I had ball joints replaced under recall whenever the recall was first issued. I ride it hard, but nothing serious happened this morning for this to show up. No I don't wheel at all. Maybe that's the problem. I will check the joints tomorrow, or at least will try to spot if that's the place noise is originating from. Just as I was thinking jeep is not giving me problems anymore, first P0441 shows up again, then this.. What's next.

I had a very similar noise before my driver's side upper balljoint failed. Definitely sounds like a bad balljoint being turned.

OK. Have no choice but to go to the dealership, I doubt they will cover this. I just drove to work and it was like an old wooden ship, creaking and cracking.

upper ball joints are part of the upper A arms - factory types are not replaceable. Jeeping Al's A arms have replaceable Moog's - however they're extended to compensate for the lift (and I think they're pretty close to the cost of the factory ones) don't know what Jeeping Al's A arms would do on an unlifted Jeep.

I just cannot rely on local shops "ghetto fitting" moogs in there, where they might not be %100 compatible or safe.

Before I installed my MOOG's I had my LBJ's replaced per the recall,they lasted less then 8000 miles before they had over 1/4" of play,and that was with no offroading either.

Thats why I never even took mine in, heard too many that went back out real soon, so "upgraded" right away. Check local parts stores, some carry them. But then for you to find a local shop. If you know how to pull the spindles you could take them off and have someone press the new ones in Thats if it is the lower ones, which i bet it is

pretty much I guess, if it was me and they replaced them again, I would be getting a set of Moogs and finding someone to replace them a few thousand miles down the road

moogs are the aftermarket replacements that have grease fittings on them so you can grease them with every oil change, no ghetto fitting/ redneck engineering to it replace just like the stock ones They are for a Jeep Liberty only better than stock , not sure why you think they would have to ghetto fit them????????????
