I believe I may have read something about this before, I could only get on the internet here and there for the last year. But I just returned home from a year deployment in Iraq and picked up my KJ from storage yesterday and noticed a couple miles down the road the rear window cracked and when i went to roll it up nothing. Later I checked and both passenger and driver side rear windows seemed to be off thier tracks. I took the panel off on one today to see if it was the tracks or exactly what the problem was. The windows are on thier tracks but the gear that drives the track is either broken off or not making contact so the motor just spins. Why would they both do this after sitting for a year? It almost makes me wonder if someone tried to break in to the thing but I have been so impressed with the security at the military contracted car lot that its almost stupid to ask. Its an '06 and I bought it brand new and it only has 10,000 miles on it so the warranty should cover it no problem but just a little startling to come back and have stuff like that happen. And as luck would have it, it poured down rain the first night back and the window slid down over night so the back seat is all wet... just great

Theres been a few with the same problems, seems to be later model years like yours, too bad it happened right after your return! Was it sitting out in the sun all that time, also do you have in channel vent visors ?? or window tint on the windows, seems as though that may have something to do with it as well

I didn't have anything on the windows, but there were some trees to both sides of it decently close, just out of range if they fell that would have provided some shade during parts of the day. I jimmy rigged up some rubber wedges to keep the windows up resonably well so they don't suprise you going over a bump and fall down so hopefully no suprising rain puddles in the seats in the morning.

But as to the issues in question my tinted rear window has no problems, but when the temperature drops the fornt hood will not stay up without assistance. Lucky for me years ago as a purchasing agent for a paint sundry distributer, I aquired a DEMO model telescopeing estension pole for paint rollers and the like. Now after all these years this 15" t0 30" extension pole now functions as my hood prop during cold weather.   :D 8)

Instead of just getting this issue repaired and going on your merry way demand they give it a full inspection and if possible kick in some extras for some one serving our country and not just any old Joe Blow. You a vet deserving extra consideration after all you have been overseas and you came home to find your beloved transpot damage while just setting on it's own. You deserve, compensation and a little extra your not just cousin Bob down the Street you are A United States Vet and deserve some extra considerations and respect.
If we haven't said it yet allow me to say THANK-YOU :D

First of all, welcome back and thanks so much for the service to your country,
I have an '06 and I have replaced the left rear window regulator twice already under warranty. I guess the clips that hold the cable in place are cheap plastic, and they give way thus destroying the regulator? My window had to be taped up until I could get the repair(s) done under warranty. One good thing though, and you should ask about this, is that I got a fresh 3 year warranty on the regulator and labor when they did the work. So in other words, my factory warranty expires in about 1 1/2 years, but the reg is covered until Dec. 2010.
Good luck, and go get yourself a big fat American cheeseburger! :D
