Post subject:  Windshield Replacement

What are some of the quotes/costs that you all have paid for replacing the KJs windshield.

I'm trying to decide if I should go through my insurance company (I don't even know my policy on windshield damage sustained while driving) or just suck it up and pay the repair bill (I haven't gotten a quote yet).

Thanks for the help.

Paid $120 for my PPG replacement windshield in '02,installed myself.

Make sure the place uses a good quility replacement glass like PPG or Solex.
Make sure it's not made in China,a bunch of glass from China has flooded the market and there not safe, half the thickness of good glass.

had a buddy who worked for the glass shop, he had a windshield that some lady had ordered and then refused to pay for. He told me he'd put it in mine for the cost of the sealant and a six pack. He would up moving out of town before putting it in, though.

yea i had a semi in front of me on the highway a few weeks ago and saw a whole bunch of rocks come off of it at once and bounce all over and heard them hitting the glass, but i didnt hear any loud CRACKS to where it seemed like it would break the window. until the next morning i noticed a 1/2" circle crack in it, down low just above the wipers a little to the left of center, im like son of a!! so i called progressive and they sent a glass company out while i was at work(i think safelite) and they filled it so it wouldnt spread to a crack. well a week later, it was maybe a 0* day outside, like -15* windchill, and i was driving to work with my defrosters/floor on and heard a LOUD CRACK!! and the crack started at that chip and made an arc across the whole window, right through that chip. so i called them(safelite) up and told them it cracked because they had a 1 year warranty/guarantee, and it was only a week later. they said they cant cover it in this type of cold/moist weather!!! so i got quotes for a new window anywhere from 150-300 for a new front windshield. im just going to wait till summer.

thanks for pointing out the different brand and cheap glass! im going to make sure i get PPG or solex like you said, i never heard of solex though

New wind-Shield is free in Kentucky.

Seems like under $250.00 for the replacement glass. That's not a bad price considering the company comes out to your house or work and installs it.

Best I found was $207 (PPG) installed with lifetime warranty on installation. For $20 extra they would send a mobile unit to complete it while I'm at work.

If you have a crack larger than a quarter, (sometimes smaller, depending on depth) you should not run defroster in cold weather. That's what is causing it to crack, and expand.

my circle-crack was like half the size of a nickel, they filled it, and a week later it cracked the whole width of the window when i had my defrosters on, it was like i think 0* outside lol

AND! the day before yesterday, im going down the highway about 65-70mph, only car around me is about football field in front of me, no highway signs, no light posts, no bridges, out of NOWHERE a SOLID piece of ice, no lie the size and thickness of a big school book, SLAMS into the middle of my windshield and shatters the top right corner and puts a huge S-shape crack the whole width of my window right in the middle in my line of sight. and connects to the previous crack that was down lower right above my wipers, that started from that 1/2" size circle crack haha, so now i need a new window soon :)

but its not THAT bad, but its bad enough, but good thing i didnt get it replaced from the first event, now im not sure if i should stick it out another month and wait till it starts getting a little warmer outside to get it replaced

i guess my window doesnt like me haha. this is the first time out of 5 years and 5 cars that i ever had a rock hit my window and crack it, and now i get it cracked twice in like 3 weeks lol
