ok so i got some oil to change my KJs and went ahead and got some to change my girls while i was at it. my question is i got syntheric oil for her 2005 Corolla S and she normaly uses dino oil. do i have to do a flush before i switch her over? or can i just drain it and put it in like normal? if someone could answer it kinda quick for me that would be great. i wanted to change it for her today before it got dark out. |

I had a (dare I say it GMC pickup) that I drove 190 miles round trip to work every day, I did the change filter every 3000 and add a quart, changed the oil every 9000 and that truck now has over 350000 ( maybe more by now) and never been torn down. Some will argue the point but it worked on it. Mine now I run Mobile 1 Syn. and change every 5/6000 and oil is always good |

With that oil, you should handle 9k especially with changing out the filter after every 3k. Try it, and if you are worried about it, do a used oil analysis after the 9k and it will show how well it held up. But imho that is good oil! Enjoy |

In 1987 I had a Nissan Pulsar that I used Mobil 1 in the entire time I owned it. I would perform a complete oil and filter change then follow this schedule 3000 miles, change filter, add make-up oil 6000 miles, change filter, add make-up oil 9000 miles, change filter, add make-up oil 12000 miles, dump all oil and do complete oil change with new filter. I sold the car at 139,000 miles, it never dripped oil or used oil and the new owner used it for three years before he sold it. It ran like a top. Around 70,000 miles I removed the valve cover and the valve area was clean as new metal ( no sludge). Compression was also good. If I would of used a bypass filter I would bet the engine would still be running well. |

your are fine waiting till 5k. just look at it and that can help you decide some. ive always changed my KJs oil every 3k till now (using reg. Mobil1) i drive so much everyday to college that i have to change it every month where can i get the a used oil analysis done? around how much does it cost? by the way my KJ has ~135k miles and runs like its brand new and uses no oil. i use synthetic in everything and change all fluids regularly myself. |

Only One warning if the engine has High Miles Keep a close eye on it. Only because synthetic has such a high detergent quality it can clean out leaks that were being plugged by the sludge from the old Oil. Additionally , when checking your oil rub the oil off your dipstick between your fingers. If it feels gritty get the oil changed soon. Happens frequently with the conversion from Dino to Synthetic. Otherwise just drive and pat your self on the back for useing less Dino. |

yeah ive used synthetic in my KJ for about the last 50k-70k miles.( the whole time ive owned it) i was switching my girls corolla S over. it only has about 40k or so on it so im sure it will be fine. ill keep a close eye on it though just in case. i forgot about the rubbing the oil thing i guess i should have said that in my previous post. sorry |

i also run the mobile 1 extended performance. I change mine every 10k. Been doing that since I got it 2 years ago with 51k on it. Now I have 103k and no problems. At some point i switched from fram filters to wix (the wix filter is a 51515, for a small block ford...it is somewhat larger than the factory filter). I only change the filter with the oil, in other words, every 10k. |
