| Post subject: | Anti-access businesses in Moab |
With everyone getting ready to head out to moab this is important. These businesses all signed a letter to Utah's governer urging him to limit or eliminate access to Utah's back-country to off-highway vehicles. Please do not give them your money, they do not want you in Moab. Copied from Rocky Mountain Extreme: In light of some recent events (namely the anti-access letter to Gov. Huntsman in the Trib and DesNews) it has been suggested that it's time to use the weight of the off-road community to bring some pressure onto certain companies. And I couldn’t agree more. I believe that the first portion of the list should focus on Moab. Why? Because Moab's main industry is tourism, with 4-wheeling being one of the cornerstones of that industry. If a significant number of 4-wheelers begin to boycott certain restaurants, gas stations and shops in Moab, these companies will begin to feel the pressure and will either have to change their tune or downsize and even close. The beginnings of this list come from companies that signed the mentioned anti-access letter. They are an identifiable problem that must be dealt with. This list should not be populated with companies that people simply dislike, or that seem to be a little bit green. This list should be targeted at companies that are actively part of the problem. If they redeem themselves by showing a marked improvement in their attitudes towards access to public lands, then they will be removed from the list. In addition, we should not only boycott these companies, we need to write a letter to each of them expressing our discontent and inform them that we will no longer be using their services. THE FOLLOWING MOAB COMPANIES SIGNED THE ANTI-ACCESS LETTER TO GOVERNOR HUNTSMAN. PLEASE WRITE TO INFORM THEM OF YOUR DISCONTENT AND STOP USING THEIR SERVICES. In addition to not using their service, you should probably (politely) ask to speak to the manager and tell him/her why you decide not to give them your business. This could be done in the form of a LOST business card (get it? groan). |

IS this a current list? A couple years ago I heard the same thing and then found out that some of those businesses had signed up for something else that ended up being sent out against the off road crowd. It turned out that some extreme green group had lied to get them to sign up. As I recall, Eddie McStiffs in particular was one of the businesses that called foul after geting a lot of ticked people calling them about it. (at that time, the list was quite a bit larger so maybe this is current?) It is hard to believe though considering that for a week that town is a madhouse every year w/ Jeepers and they pour Tons of money into the local businesses. |

Yeah, I'm a bit confused. How can a company called "Slickrock Adventures" be against people using public lands? Talk about cutting your own throat! |

I KNOW there is one mistake on that list! Moabillia is OWNED and OPERATED by MEMBERS of the the RedRock 4-wheelers. Bob and Solange Castaldo are good friends of mine! Bob is a former LAND USE OFFICER for RR4W!! As JJ said this seems to be the same list from a few years back, that was not accurate then or now. |

Looking around over at RME, I don't see any recent threads about SUWA or the boycott deal. On Pirate and RME it appers to be a non-issue. |

Yes, and it was mentioned on Pirate that they were not too happy to find out they were on the list. |

The Slick Rock Cafe has crappy food anyway. Now if it were Pasta Jays, I would be very disappointed. |
