Post subject:  Solar Panel

Saw this solar panel at Harbor Freight today and was wondering what others thought about it. Do you think it would actually keep the battery charged when using the Jeep to power things like battery chargers, a laptop, or running the radio?

You'd have to figure out how much power you're using, and how much the panel generates.

I doubt this panel makes enough juice to amount to anything. Remember you get what you pay for. Sounds like snake oil to me.

It is talking about the small drains.....basically when the vehicle is turned off and not running (parked in your garage, at work, or at the airport while you are on vacation). You had also better be in an area with a lot of sunshine to get max effect.

I think that is all that it would be good for, basically If you park for a while and need just a small amount of energy to keep the battery topped off.

This makes me wonder about something, though. I know where a 4' x 4' solar cell is sitting. 12V, don't remember the amperage. hhmmmm

I keep one in my windshield while my Jeep sits here at school all week.

I do not believe it would power anything but Im sure it helps to keep the battery topped off.

real quick question for ya jeepjeepster... on those rails on the top, is the only thing that is holding those cross bars on the top the key locking mechanism or do you have to have an allen hed key? i am trying to decide to buy them or not?

Allen bolt holds them on. The key lets you take the ends off so you can slid the rubber out to get to the bolts.

Kinda stupid really, you can pull the rubber up without even taking the locks off. The allen bolt takes a special driver but its still a bad design.
