how many miles can you go with EVIC at ZERO? i know when the gas light comes on it shows about 25 miles left. however even when its down to zero and i fill up, i can only put 15 gallons. I have a 2004 which is supposed to have 19 gallon gas tank right? so is there 4 gallons for reserve or something? |

My Jeep has a 19 gallon tank and I can go about 20 extra miles before I chicken out and look for more gas. When DCX programs your DTE (Distance till Empty) reading, they have to factor in a bit of saftey. They don't want you running out with 1 mile left on your display. The only real way to tell is to drive it a few more miles each time until you get to around 16.5 gallons to fill up. |

The last trip my wife and two friend went on in my liberty on the way back (its about a 500 mile trip) I was trying to make it back to base without filling up. Then there went the gas light. No gas station for another 50 miles. well it was actually 60 but the Liberty made it. Talk about being worried about being on the side of the road. (In Germany if you run out of gas on the autobahn the cops will bring you gas but then charge you like a 500 euro fine) I couldn't beleive that the Liberty went that far with the gas light on. Not to mention I was going about 80 the entire way. I love my JEEP! When I filled up I put in about 18.5 gallons. ($75.00 .... I didn't know I was driving a 2500 LOL) ~JUD |

I've got a 20 mile commute to work one way, and 12 to school (both from home) about 5 miles into my trip to school, my gas light went on. 1/8 tank, right? I say "eff it, i'm late for class" and continue. get to school, i'm hungry, so i REALLY wanna get back home, gas light still on. that's 19 miles right? I get home, screw around on the computer for a little while, eat, etc, and then realize i'm running late for work, and then go to work. that's 39 miles. 9 o'clock comes, and I start headin home, and I notice that the needle's laying on the peg, so I stop at a gas station... I'm in memphis, but I LIVE in North MS (where gas is 30 cents a gallon cheaper) so I get exactly ONE gallon of gas...at $2.55 about 5 miles into my trip. My liberty has averaged 17.5 mpg since I got it, So let's figure I consume that ENTIRE gallon on the way home, since I was a little harder on the gas than normal, and the extra weight from the mud last night, LOL. I get home, totally forgetting to get gas, so I run to the store about 2.5 miles down the road. ok so we've got 39 miles, plus 20 miles, minus 17 miles, which is 52 miles... it only sucked up 16.6 gallons when i filled it up. |

I've gone 50 after it says zero. When it hits zero I reset the odo so I know how close I am getting to being in trouble! I hate to go much more than that because I heard it's not good to get to low as u start to suck up the crap that ends up in the bottom of all fuel tanks and can damage the fuel system. |

Try not to leave your vehicle sitting with less than 1/4" tank (espcially in cooler weather) as you will get condensation in the tank and that can lead to carbon build up on sparkplugs, injectors and the like. |

Last time I let my light come on was the day I was headin out of town for the beach. Was gonna stop at costco and get a massive supply of candy for the trip, and right as I pulled in my gas light came on. Though "well thats convenient, i'll just fill up while i'm here then head on in". Got to the pump and put in 18.3 gallons of gas, and keep in mind i've got an 03, which means 18.5gal tank, and my light had JUST come on as i entered the parking lot. To that day i've never let the light come back on ever again...LOL oh and i DON'T have an EVIC. |
