Has anyone had any trouble with the glass hatch not releasing when you pull the hatch handle? I use to be able to pull the leaver partially to open the hatch glass and then all the way to open the swing hatch door. Now when I pull on the handle it does nothing until i pull the handle all the way and then the glass and the swing hatch both open together and not very smoothly either, they somewhat bind. I'm just wondering if anyone else had this issue and know exactly which part needs to be replaced? I'm assuming its a electronic switch/relay that must be faulty. I will be tearing it apart tomoorw and figuring it out but any help would be appreciated.

Could be a bad switch in the handle or a bad solenoid that opens the glass. Im guessing its the handle since the glass opens if you pull it all the way. If it was the solenoid that open the glass then I would assume it wouldnt open at all.

Unless when you open the door it forces the glass to open. :?

Does it make a noise at all if you pull the handle half way?

Jeepjeepster i know its not the solenoid due to being able to push the "glass release" onmy remote and the glass opens fine. There is no noise if i pull the handle half way(nothing). Now what i forgot to mention was that when i do open the swing hatch and glass by pulling the handle all the way and go to close it again the glass will not shut unless i hit the remote glass releas button which releases the locking mechanisum back to the unlocked state. hmm. I'm assuming it's the switch. Will find out tomorrow i guess. Electronics on a jeep :? ...

Ohh, be careful with that then. It sounds like the glass is being forced to open with the latch not unlatching. I would hate to see that glass break since its $$ to replace.

Renegadekj, I have the exact same problem with my 2003 KJ, please let me know if you find the fix.
I think it's in the handle as the glass opens fine with the remote.

You can also try adjusting the glass U bracket that holds the glass shut on the gate. Take off the gate inside cover and you can adjust the latch with a screwdriver. I did this on mine and it works great now. May take a couple of adjusts to get it right so keep the gate cover off until you get it adjusted right.

I had the rear locking mechanism get all funky - the electronics in it decided to die and mess up everything (i could open the tailgate with the doors locked and sometimes the glass latch/catch would 'stick' and the glass wouldn't catch)

Just had the locking mechanism replaced yesterday for $300 =/

I had that happen once about 3 months ago, it was sort of cold but not that bad. It hasn't happened since.

I did have a look at but havent had time to fix anything yet( 2 month shutdown at work). I'm still not convinced that it is the latch mechanism electronic box or if it has something to do with the switch. I guess i could get my meter out and find out when i do have time. I may just get it fixed somewhere since my time isn't allowing me to do it.

I have the same issue but I think it is the piston arms for the glass as the key fob or door releases the glass but the glass does not rise open on it's own.

Try to physically grab the glass after key fobbing or door pulling it, you should be able to lift the glass up manually without much resistance. If this is the case for you, I suspect it is the piston arms that need replacing as they have lost their seal. If the glass is still attached, then I assume it is a contact issue on the U as stated before.

Let me know if this works for you.
