255/55-18 = 29x10.04-18
235/65-17 = 29x9.25-17

The 18-inchers are wider than the 17-inchers. But I don't think you will have a problem with them rubbing.

Thanks jeepkj02 ,would a spare wheel in the 18" size be needed if running the 18's or would a spare wheel in the 17"inch be ok, wondering if the slight size difference would cause problems with transmission.

For offroad purposes I would get a full size/matching spare. For street purposes, it would work, but I wouldn't recommend driving with it on for a long time or at high speeds, keep it under 88 kph (55 mph).

I've got 16"s with Goodyear Atr's for off roading, and some 17"s for the street ,seen some 18"'s at a good price and was considering them also for street use,was wondering if i would need to buy 4 or 5 wheels ,as i've read somewhere that mismatched wheel sizes or even under inflated tyres can cause probs with transmission.
