Well I got the mounting plates in from the fabricator. The things are solid. Mounted them up, fits great. Its pouring outside so I only mounted the jack in 1 position. This mounting position works really good so far. Both doors can open, and there is minimal overhead clearance lost. Tomo its supposed to stop raining so I can Try the different mounting positions. I'm supposed go wheeling this weekend, so i can test it on the trail. I've been driving around downtown richmond, which has cobblestone streets and some pretty patched up/pottholed streets and I can confidently say this. THE THING IS STURDY! Barely made a sound, I heard a little clinking from the handle on big bumps, but a handle keeper will solve that. I'm also supposed to be test fitting it on a FJ this weekend. They will also fit most roof baskets, I just need to get the measurements for max tube diameter. I want to test fit it on wrangler roll bars too.

(Note: Some of the bolts here are longer than will actually be used, so there wont be giant thread ends sticking out, and the production model, if made, will be made of aluminum with rubberized coating.)

I love it. Any idea on what kind of price we're looking at? How much for the shovel and ax handle adapters, also?

Looking good.

Your idea is great and if it was anchored with anything BUT a pair of plastic roof rack mounts, I would say GO FOR IT!

The weak point is the plastic rack mounts. Nots sure how much force it will take to crack one of those, not sugesting your find out, just cautious.

But looking good.

I'm looking at $35 for it made in aluminum and painted. As far as the ax/shovel holder, gotta get the clamps in the works, but shouldn't take long to get done.

I was a bit worried about the plastic rack mounts, but they are holding pretty darn solid. The good thing though is that these will work on any rack up to a 2" diameter tube for aftermarket racks or rails. After I get this test fit on a FJ this weekend, I may send them up to you next week for testing on the Gecko.

I may slightly modify the design so it will work on larger diameter tubes, such as the roll cage on TJ's
