101,346 miles and no real problems, ..............then going down the road 2 different dump trucks and two rocks in less than 20 miles, of course they both had to hit the windshield!
So new windshield tomorrow which is taking 200 out of my refund play money
Oh well had to go somewhere and it was pretty sand blasted

That sucks, I've got a small crack on the passenger side on the bottom where the windshield is black...doesnt appear to be all the way through though.

Ouch that's gotta hurt. I've had one for the past 20k or so, but it's over on the passenger side in the lower corner and doesn't interfere with my view out so I've been lax. Guess I should call tomorrow and get an appointment since I now have $0 deductible on the glass.

I don't know how it works in AZ, but here in KY there is no glass deductable. I did have the windshield crack and spiderweb in a rental car in AZ a couple years ago, but the rules followed my KY insurance policy. However, if it's only a chip or crack that can be covered by something the size of a dollar bill, the insurance company will usually want to repair it instead of replacing it. So make sure the insurance company knows it's a large crack.

100k out of windshield is alot.

I've got about 45k on mine and its nearing the end of me wanting to look through it.

Colorado winters are hardon windshields.

one hit is now 4 inches long the second is about 14 inches so a dollar bill will not cover it I don't think

Yeah, when they throw cinders down on the snow it can be a bear on windshields. Luckily I just have to worry about the random rock-hauler out here...

There is a deductible for glass in AZ but my policy is $0 (helps to have a decent driving record) so I just need to get it done. And yeah I've been thru the whole 'will a dollar bill cover the damage' thing on past windows, but this one is too large for that.

Yeah, but Tom, you're going to LOVE that new glass. So much easier on the eyes, especially driving into the sun..... 8)

Nice, That is about 100,000 miles more than mine lasted. I caught a golfball size rock last week. I had my wife call the insurance co. when they asked her if it was larger than a dollar bill, she said no...
So, when we got out of the KK we both shut our doors at the same time, and low and behold...the chip split! It worked though. I didnt have to clean the windshield then.

In Colorado instead of salt in the winter they use sand which results in a lot of sand blasted windsheild. This resulted in insurance companys offering different coverages for windshield, since many waited till it was hard to see out due to pitting from sand and hit the windshield with a hammer to replace. To aleviate this problem insurance companys changed their rules to replace windshield easily.

The first week I had my Jeep I almost got hit by a guy pulling a flat deck trailer. It had come out of a construction area, covered in rocks and I got one in the lower drivers side corner of the windshield. By the time I got to my friends house, it had cracked all the way along the bottom. I was happy to have the rock strike instead of the trailer hit.

It is not in my line of sight and it is a jeep, so I figure I will just leave it as a conversation piece.

Ohio WAS the same way when I lived in Mansfield, OH I had an issue with a scratched up driverside window from the weatherstrip mounting clips on my 95 XJ.

Asked and there was NO deductable on ANY auto glass. windshield or any other.

You might have already been paying for it in ins. premiums, why pay more. AND they can not total a car for auto glass claims. At least they were use to be able to.

Good luck.

i've always wondered if you are behind a truck and drop a bunch of rocks which crack your windshield if you can chase them down, or call the company they work for and get them to replace it. Don't know if it works that way though?

The drivers are responsible for "securing" their load prior to departure (even if they have the "Stay back 100 feet" warning). This means straping/chaining the load and cleaning any loose debris off the side rails/body. If you can identify the truck and driver and contact the company they might reimburse you.

If they don't, however, you can file a police report and proceed from there...

my windshiled got hit by a rock... rock carrying truck, figure that!, at about 10k. I paid $100 for the deduc. and it was drive on.
the coolest part was that they did it at my house, b/c after getting hit, it spread and spread and eventually it was all the way across the windshield horizontally.

If you can prove who it was then most times the company will take care of it, both the trucks I got it from had no markings (old farm trucks) plates were covered in dirt/mud/ whatever else and no use trying to chase them down. Wasnt worth it.
