Not in the US.

plus, the renegade is mostly show. And the actual go can be added to any other Jeep easy.

They have them in Australia. I think they have them in Europe. And I assume they have them in Africa. If you go overseas to pick one up, let me know. I'll help pay the shipping costs if you bring a 6-speed JK Unlimited Rubicon CRD back with you. I think I'd like it in red, but any color would do.

In DCX's infinite wisdom, they withheld the CRD Renegade from the US market, as well as the CRD 6-speed. They're also withholding the JK CRD from us. Unforgivable if you ask me.

Isn't there a problem with emissions regs? The CRD Libby was always promoted as a market test, but now I think that new ownership might have messed up access to the real goods they wanted: the bluetec v6.

Was the Renny package more than an appearence thing? I have an '05 sport, sis-in-law has an '05 renny, and she has no functional equipment that I do not have, and even has the ST tires to my SR-A's. Someone told me they had skids. I was going to buy/steal them from her but they weren't there!

It was a trim package, thats all. The trim pieces for the Renegade had crome rivets in the side of them. Those rivets were not functional, only decorative. The hood and fenders were different on some years (flater). Some years included a lightbar, some had the lightbar optional. I believe they were all manual with the 3.7. They had different styled 16 inch wheels. They had the fog lights mounted externally on top of the bumper instead of it it or in the grill. They had stock mopar skid plates, mopar rock sliders, and mopar tow hooks as well, which you could get as an option package (off-road package) for any other KJ (The Mopar skid stuff is not the greatest, however).

Thus most of the stuff on the Rene was for show, sans the offroad package and lightbar (which was optional on many). The offroad package's skids, tow hook and rails-- and the lightbar-- can be purchased at the Jeep stealership or better aftermarket ones can be bought as well.

Sure you can add a flat hood and renegade light bar to a CRD. But I thought CRD's didn't come with manual transmissions.

So no flat-hood CRD? Bummer. :( What options do I have with the CRD?

Yup, the renegade is mostly just for show, kinda like 22 inch Rimz and 6 12inch woofers.

The little bit of go the Renegade has can be duplicated in aftermarket parts better.

Now if you want the renegade for the aesthetics, thats fine, nothing wrong with that. Just realize that most of what is drawing you to it is the aesthetics.

Personally I'm partial to the 05-07 Renegade hood and grill. I think it looks much "Jeepyer" than the bubble eyed hoods the other KJs have.

Alfo, FYI, the earlier Renegades with the "Tupperware" roof rack are actually rated for less payload capacity than the regular roof rails. Like I said, all show, no go.

The main thing I want (appearance wise) is the flat hood and dark flares. I noticed on some Renegade KJs the flares were almost black, instead of the gray color I have.

You can take a US-Spec CRD Sport or Limited (only offered in 05 and 06) and replace the hood and grill (and a couple other parts) and have an automatic CRD that has a flat hood. If you like the fenders, you can replace the stock non-rivet ones (black on the Sports, body-color on the Limiteds) with the faux-rivet Renegade ones. Beyond that, you can get higher quality rock-rails, skid plates, and light bars in the aftermarket. But you could also put on the Mopar ones pretty easily. A number of us have discussed the topic of making a faux-CRD-Rene by swapping parts in the CRD section, but no one has done it. Every time I look at the cost of Reneing-out my CRD, I find something else of more importance to spend my money on. It's something I'd like to do, but it's not something I'm going to do until a number of other things are done. Know what I mean?

All US-spec CRDs have the auto tranny. If you're really interested in a manual, I have a thread going in the CRD section polling CRD owners on their interest in swapping the auto for a manual. We're nowhere near any kind of resolution, but the thread is gathering some intel on the interest and logistics of the auto-to-manual swap

The import regulations are a mess (to answer your question InCommando). There are emission regulation differences and host of other logistics that I've been trying to dig through. Of all the people I've talked to, no one has said the word "impossible," so I keep digging. The "easiest" way to bring a Euro-spec CRD over here, that I've found, is to go over there, own the vehicle for X amount of time, then ship it over here as a personal vehicle. There are then regulations regarding the resale of the vehicle once it's on US soil. Messy....but still not impossible.

since you have an 02-04 you would need extensive work to even put the hood on.

The flat hood has a different grill, so theres two parts you need, and then you need the newer 05+ bumper to match that grill, and then you need the newer fender to match the newer bumper, and then you need the newer fender flares to match the newer fender.

But wait, you need the newer bumper support and splash shields.

Luckily, thats all though.

That's alot of trouble for aesthetics, and alot of money.

Dang, you posted while I was typing.

Flat hood is doable...

Black flares can be had easily, just buy a CRD Sport. If you get an 05 Dark Khaki Sport, however, you'll get brownish flares. That was the only color that year that had colored matte flares. I think there were two colors offered in 06 where they did that to the Sport flares. I believe Dark Khaki was one, and I think there was another one, but I can't remember since I was only looking and not actually shopping. Someone that bought a CRD in 06 will probably know better.

Well, with appearance being secondary to functionality, the CRD engine is the main thing I want. And I believe those were only available with the later body style KJs. With that being said, how difficult would it be to convert one of those to a flat-hood?

Any 05+(remember CRD's were 05/06 only) can be converted. All it takes is a Hood, Grill, Money, Time.

Somewhere on here are the part #'s for the 3 pieces needed: Hood, grille, and I think it was the "support." I have seen used grilles on daBay for about $30 + s/h.

BUT: I have seen a couple of KJ's with body-colored bug deflectors on the hood . If you want to clean up the grille & hood line, this might be a way to do it for a fraction of the cost.
