Post subject:  Oil on sparkplug????

I dont think this is good. I run Amsoil 5w30 full syn. and yesterday when I changed my plugs #6 (i think back pass. side) had oil on the plug. I checked my oil and its not burning any oil and its still full so I dont know what it would be. Any help or ideas of how bad this could be?

when you say you have oil on the plug is it wet and oily or just crusty and burnt oil
and how bad is it
how many miles on the KJ
if it is really bad you would throw a code for misfire

Is the oil on the electrode or just where the coil plugs onto the plugs?

I also would like to know where the oil was found. If the electrode was dripping wet, you'd have seen the blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe and surely would have thrown a code as JT mentioned.

no codes thrown It was on the white part of the plug so I am not sure exactly where the oil came from?

Could be a valve cover seal. I have an old Honda that one of the spark plug wells would fill with oil. The seal around the plug was bad.

well still not losing oil so I have no clue why there was oil on my plug but who knows. Although by changing the plug I gained 1.89 mpg.....almost 2 mpg just by changing the spark plugs its crazy

I had the same problem on #6 and replaced the coil. Reminds me, I need to check it this weekend and see if the plug is still dry! :)

Amsoil has an extremely high detergent quality and if the oil is not on the electrode, then I would look in a different source. Run a test and check the coils. If the oil is on the outside of the motor rather then the interior engine part of the spark plug. I would say the problem isn't internal. 8)

TJKJ gave me that to try. the seal on the coil was in rough shape. I will try and take a lok for you tomorrow.

no luck today. It's been raining all day. You probably could have yours out and replaced for under $30 by the time I get to looking at mine again!
