My brother's 04 kj 3.7L started missing a little bit on cold starts a couple of months ago but would smooth out after a couple blocks of driving. It would throw a CEL and the scanner would just say misfire in #3 cylinder. last week he was driving and the engine made a terrible clanging sound and lots of smoke. He was able to limp home but just barely. He checked the compression and # 3 has zero compression. has anyone on the forum ever thrown a valve in their 3.7L? |

I've heard of a few 3.7s and 4.7s doing it. How many miles are on it? |

I had a broken valve spring on my 3.7 somewhere between 100,000 and 110,000 miles. Had all the valves and springs replaced then. Wasn't cheap but now I have 160,000 and running strong. |

63K, can you believe that. Do these engines break the valve if this happens or just bend them? |

From what Ive heard the valve doesnt hit the piston but Im not saying it didnt happen on his engine. 04 kj will have a 7yr/70 powertrain warranty unless it was bought used and not transfered over. 60k is pretty sad. |

nurse...i'd agree about the broken valve spring. If he's able to check his own compression, he should be able to change his own valve springs...parts are cheap, labor isn't! |

106k on my 02' still runs real strong. I hope my springs don't break any time soon. Not looking forward to that! |
