It seems lately that every one is talking about or already sold their KJ.

How come every one is thinking about it?

Age, more family room, GAS!, or time to make a change?

some of it is a little gas scare.

people somehow rationalize a new car even though it will probably cost them more per mile to drive than an older car.

LOL yea i fortog to mention GAS GAS AND MORE GAS.

I have noticed a large amount of big suv's on the used dealer lots these last few weeks.
I am sure that you are not going to get a fair value for the SUV's. People want to off them and dealers really are not selling them. So what kind of deal are they going to give you on your trade in?

The Jeep dealer by me has a ton of used Jeeps on their lot now. I even seen the new JK for re-sell.

I did a trade in value from kbb.com and this is what mine is worth

Trade in:
Excellent $6,250

Private sell:
Excellent $7,105

This is with 120xxx miles on it and all the work I put into it.

I am sure the dealer will NEVER give you the actual value of it.

Same thing happened back in the 70s everyone was getting rid of their vans, trucks, anything that was bigger, you could pick up stuff for 1/3 what it was worth! A year later everything was the same as before those that sold wanted something bigger and out of their disco cars (name for little cars back then  ) I dont see any sense in selling something that I owe no money on to have a 300/400 payment to save gas ???? Makes no sense to me plus I HATE TO DRIVE ANY CAR!

Long after I turn my KJ into a KJ Pickup it will still be running the trails. I have no plans of ever selling it as long as I can make it run.

Terry

PS: the pickup will be born in a couple of years. Maybe less.

A lot of people that bought the KJ didn't expect the mileage it returns. No offense to anyone here - but some people attribute the size of a vehicle to the Gas Milage it will get (despite reality.) And when you start paying out the nose at the fill up station, people get scared. They'll do anything to increase the weekly paycheck flow and not look at the bigger picture.

My KJ will be My KJ for a very long time.

i have a friend who recently tried to trade in his tahoe and the dealership wouldnt even take it. they told him to go to carmax. he did and they told him the same thing. no thank you. gas should be 6 bucks a gallon within 2 years. time to get a prius to tow the kj around  im kidding, but some of you will take me serious. so i feel i should state it now.

Brian......don't worry. You won't be the only one left on the board.

I can't sell mine because it is paid for and it would be stupid to have a big payment in exchange for a little better gas mileage. And I really do not like cars as much as jeeps.

Besides, I love my jeep and someone will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I am keeping my KJ until it falls to the ground. I got rid of my little hundai that got 37 mpg to get the KJ. I needed a larger vehical with 4x4 for our bad winters. Besides, I needed to have another Jeep again.

Even though the KJ sucks gas, it is the MOST practical vehical for me !!

With diesel being even higher than RUG the CRD's should drop in price too. That's a good thing because I want to get one for my wife so she will quit taking mine!

My brother drives a Ford F-350 that he has parked and only uses when he needs to haul his rock crawling buggies to Moab every other month. The rest of the time he drives a tiny little Sprint  . Can't argue with the logic though. He gets 12 MPG in his truck and almost 40 in the little econo box.

Well I'm not getting rid of my two KJ's any time soon. We put most of our running around miles on our Scion and have it for backup for those inevitable Jeep problems. Luckily both my wife and I have short drives around town for work and such so it doesn't make sense to get rid of them. Besides, we are addicted to our Jeeps.

I think part of it is the natural sales progression, as well. It looks like you are seeing many people who bought new KJ's paying them off & now moving on to another new something-or-other. The age progression of the KJ & the average 60 month purchase plan looks like it is maturing, is all.

It also seems that the "poser" era for jeeps and things like Harleys is coming to a close for a while, too. These fads have always run in cycles ( if you are old enough to have seen a cycle or two.) It just means bargains for those of us who are in it for the long haul. My first jeep was purchased in 1981, and I have had at least one every since. I currently have two. Posers have never understood the nature of things liek Jeeps & Harleys, and never will. They own them while they are hot, because they are hot, and flee as the fad turns.

Thank God for the wheel turning. If I see one more yuppie with a shaved head and some kind of goatee on a bike I might scream.
