..Finally got my OME kit in today!! Now I'm all set :D But before installation of everything I was thinking of painting over the red parts of my new Al's a-arms with black..there shouldn't be any problems with this as long as I tape everything else off, right? Is there any specific spray paint I should use? I was planning on using 'Krylon' indoor/outdoor metal/wood/plastic spraypaint..same stuff I used to paint my antenna black.......

I just got done doing this actually. I took the ball joints out since they are the nice convenient bolt in kind. Then, I just taped off the rubber bushings and sprayed away! I used Duplicolor bedliner because I love the finish and look that it gives. Came out nice. I cant see it causing any problems, so should be good!

You may get a lot better finish if you remove them first so you can fully de-grease everything, but then again how much do you care about slight paint adhesion problems under your engine bay...

..They're not installed yet so that's a good thing.

hmm..Do I need a coat of primer before spraying them?

i didnt, but the bedliner is pretty sticky. im not sure how your paint would adhere. if i were you i would paint a small section of one of them to test it first.

Remove the sheen finish off the painted A-arms first with some steel wool untill the color dulls, wipe clean and then paint.

yep! scuff em up good, clean em with some rubbing alcohol and tape off whatever areas you dont want painted and spray away. maybe set something up with a tie-wire to hang them, or just tie the wire to the arms and hold them while you paint them then set them down somewhere gently while they dry

ok so I started em before you guys r/b, what i did was cleaned them w/alcohol and masked the other parts of w/tape...used the metal spray paint, but like u guys mentioned, i didn't scuff the gloss so I'm hoping the black paint lasts for a while. I already have it set in my mind that I'll have to get under there probably to touch it up, but I hopefully it doesn't pit thru to the red too bad too quickly! 8) I guess we'll see......

it should be ok, as long as you cleaned it with alcohol. but IF it does chip, you can always take the wheels off, scuff em up good and paint them while they are on the jeep. just put some of that brown masking/painting paper around everything you dont want painted, but being black, i doubt you will even see that much overspray in the wheelwell as long as your somewhat neat about it

idk about you guys but I like the bright yellow OME stuff... Heck I'd think apart the suspension and make the springs yellow before I made the struts/shocks black.

whose springs are Yellow OMEs???? think again , all the ones that I have bought and thats 4 full sets so far all come black never saw a yellow set

I have two sets laying in the garage brand new all are black! I think yellow would be ugly as all get out on mine, would paint them right away.

well I must have been trippin' earlier. That or I got the whole OME struts and shocks being all yellow mixed up with the Rancho's somehow. either way, I need to just order a set and get some in hand for a closer look  (right after I get all my skids and rock rails installed, I want to add the weight first and then see what kind of height difference I get) 8)
