Post subject:  Rear Clunking noise

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty- 3.7 automatic. At 19,000 it developed a rear clunking noise coming from the left rear suspension. Been to the dealer twice. Can't locate the problem. I lubricated all the rear suspension bushing with Silicone spray with Krytox-non petro chemical. Noise went away for a month and now it's back. Checked all bolts- and retorqued to spec's. Finally, I replace the rear factory shocks with Bilstein. Ride is actually 200% better. A week later the clunking noise returned. This only occurs around 3-4 mph over small road bumps. Noise will continue when taking off around a turn. IF all the bushing are lubricated noise goes away. This is only occuring from the left rear. :evil :?:

Probally the Bilisten rear shocks not having the correct upper bushing for the KJ.Might need to install a washer between the shock mount and the shock bushing and re-install the bolt.

Does it feel like the back end is moving laterally on those small bumps or turning?

Check the rear ball joint, possibly torn, or the bolt at the top of the diff worked themselves loose.

ISn't it under warranty?

x2, I was having a clunking sound in my passanger side, rear and put a fender washer where TJ is talking about and re-tightened it and no more noise.

Post subject:  Clunking noise

Have taken my Liberty back to Dealer 3x's . The reason I replaced the factory shocks with Bilstein was due to the same clunking sound over small bumps. When I spray the front bushing on the rear lower control arm, the noise dissapears. I expalined this to the dealer, but they can't duplicate the noise. I may just replace the entire lower control.
