Probably already hocked for drug money.

Check Pawn shops around you and EBay.

Added some double sided metal foil radiant heat protective wrap around my new AGM battery. Hopefully this will make it last longer..... 8)

Sorry to hear that. I always wondered if you guys with lights had a way of locking them or something.

Have spent the last 4 days or so overhauling the front of mine, cleaning everything, replacing this and that. Made sure to take some pics and such to augment the tech section that had some missing photos and such from the tutorials

I started off with the goal of replacing my cv boots, because i let them get something on them, grease, road tar, something, i don't know, and over the course of about 100 miles, it ate grooves into my cv boots before i could take a pan of water and dawn and scrub them down with a rag,

Image

anyway, one had a hole so i replaced all of the boots - which i already magically had in the shed because the time before last, i had bought 4 cv boot kits just to get the boot clamps out of them - it just sucked, i bet i didnt have 12kmi on those cv's

and my LBJ's boots were torn so they were going to ghost pretty soon as well so i replaced those, and cleaned out my jba ucabjs and made some boot spacers because i had never gotten any, so that's taken care of

and in the process, i came across this..

Image
out of curiosity i dissected it, the hose wrap basically blew apart as soon as i touched it with the razor knife
Image
the banding on the hose underneath was also starting to rot
Image

so i replaced my front brake lines and caliper bolts, put some new pads on since the frozen caliper bolt on the driverside had eaten up the inner pad - so much for making it to 150k+mi on one set of pads, i was at 120ishK and the front pads were all at 40+% except that one pad lol.. :dead:

and i replaced a TPS that had gone bad, and the front outer bearings and seals

well actually , im still dealing with the passenger side seal.. it decided to not come out with the bearing

but once i deal with that, ill be putting the passenger side back together having replaced

LBJ's,
cleaned and serviced jba ucabjs
outer bearing and seals,
front brake lines, pads and caliper bolts,
serviced both cv's and replaced the boots,
changed the oil and filter
flushed and bled the brake lines front and rear
changed the front diff oil
rotated the tires

and degreased / cleaned everything from the transmission forward

i have 2 1/2 1gal paint cans slam full of grease, grit and dirt.. lol
i'm hoping to actually get to drive my :JEEPIN: home from the shop tomorrow

Great find on the soon to fail brake lines!
That could have gotten real ugly and / or dangerous in a urgent stopping situation had one of them blew out causing the Jeep to have a sudden loss of braking on the front calipers!

yeah, tell me about it!
i had originally planned to do some overhaul work to the rear as well but i'm going to hold off on it till next month , just going to bleed the rear brakes after i finish doing a few odds and ends on the front, but it's sitting on 4 tires for the first time in 4 days. as usual my time estimate was 1/2 as short as it ended up taking, i had anticipated spending 2 days on the front and a day on the back and a day doing cleaning, bleeding and incidentals but it ended up taking 4 days for the front and then tomorrow will be the cleaning and incidentals - i didnt expect passenger side seal and intermediate shaft to put up the fight they did - that was 3 hours by itself

i could have driven it home today but i didnt want to drive it until i had a chance to flush the rear brakes , that and i really didnt feel like carrying the battery across the shop and putting it back in after i walked full stride with both shins into a farmall draw hitch thats next to my sink.. lol.. freakin thing creased my shins boy. and didn't just do it with one shin, after slamming the left shin into it i decided it was a great idea to slam my right one into it as i caught my balance :dead:

plus i may end up putting a front crank seal on it tomorrow - though i doubt it - that one might just get tacked on the to-do-list for the rear suspension work

Since you already plan to bleed the rear brakes, you may want to go ahead and replace that single real flex brake hose and then you are done with brake lines hopefully....

takes me about 5 minutes to flush and bleed an intact system
ill end up doing it again when i do the work to the rear suspension, ive got new bumpstops to put on the rear, atm all i have is hockey pucks , the orig. bump stops rotted and crumbled. got a set of new springs to throw in the rear as well as some bushings that are getting replaced and the rear needs new brake pads so i may replace that line while doing that

i drew out about 16oz of fluid from the ps pump and replaced it with lucas 10441 - my pump has whined pretty bad for the last few years, now its quiet as a daggum mouse.. smh. the pump on the 250 diesel started doing the same thing around 80kmi and thats what was used to shut it up and 70kmi later its still good to go

drove it to town and back today, drives straight no weird noises, going to finish degreasing it tuesday afternoon with the power washer then put the skids back on it and go find a new battery, 4 days of it sitting on the work bench and it went too low to start the vehicle - pretty sure i finished it off last sunday when i was talking on 2m in the driveway and wasnt paying attention to my voltage meter. it charged up but it showed a lack of capacity on my tester so its probably got a bad cell or two - put the batt. in during 2011 so it's due anyway

This is one of my most favoritest threads.

I get to laughing sometimes. Every one of us have the same basic vehicle with the same engine + drivetrain, and the same intrinsic flaws / weaknesses, and yet we have a forum where every single one of our vehicles is unique in the ways we've come up to address these. :frankie:

Just got it back form the shop for the first time in 3 years...

Ordered up 4.10 gears front and rear and a trutrack setup for the front and Detroit locker for the rear. I did not feel like I had the skill to dial in the gears for long life so handed it over to my local mechanic. hope things go well!... hope haha

I am liking the feel of the new gears with 31.5" tires. the truetrac setup on the front is riding nice on corners and my worries that the rear locker would be too much for a KJ on road seem to have died off, it kicks the rear tire if you punch it but it's smooth enough for city driving.

Only hang up is a bolt on my aluminum rear diff case is hitting my fuel tank armor :| I am thinking there is some cutting in my future to make enough room for it to clear before I can really have any fun with my new setup.

Soon.... will be doing the back bumper with a tire carrier rig and steel bumper.

I bought it on amazon. They have a couple of versions one being the state flag version, a license plate version, and a senic version as well. It was hard to choose but if I ever had to replace it I could switch to a new one.

License plate version

Scenic version

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01L8542WC?psc=1

I'm sitting at F:23.25" R: 23" rocking 265/70/17(32x10.5). I have not done the pinch weld mod yet as I'm currently at work and my gf just picked it from getting the tires mounted. Once I get home I'm going to do the washer bottle mod and flatten the pinchweld.
