That part 55360780AA has evaded me. Thanks for posting the part number; expensive but  .

I have not changed out my 203 thermo yet; still cool up here (unfortuantely)

Started in on this project today:

Image

Received the front, engine & transmission, and fuel tank skids today; the transfer case item should get here Monday or Tuesday.

Was going to start with the fuel tank, but ran into two hitch bolts that are going to need a couple of days' soak in PB Blaster before that can happen. Decided to do the front; will get the engine & transmission skid in tomorrow.

If anyone needs a factory front skid, complete with an intact plastic undertray and three bolts (I had no idea there was one missing until I stuck the socket in one of the front mounting holes and there was nothing in there), let me know and we can figure it out.

After almost two weeks of soaking in PB Blaster, persuasion, and storm delays, the gas tank skid is finally in. Full skids FTW

I brought my Jeep into the shop today for some exhaust work. The resonator had become detached from the tailpipe, leading to a rattle/clank sound. Yay rust.

Awesome. Having full skids is cheap insurance when a driveshaft falls off the vehicle ahead of you and you don’t have time to avoid it before it bounces under your Jeep. :D That was my experience at least. I got skids for off-roading but my Jeep has hit more things on the road than off!

Bead blasted and painted my stock strut forks.

These will be installed with my new ome lift sometime this summer. I'm currently running long forks from a KA.

Will the 4wheel skid plate work on the 2wheel drive. Thinking about full skids on mine.

Yes, I think so. The skids are bolted to the crossmembers and to each other, so you don’t have to have a transfer case above the T-case skid for it to bolt into place. I guess on a 2wd KK you would just have a longer driveshaft in this location.

The rear main seal finally let go in a big way about a month ago. Making matters even better, I'm 1300 miles from home. Found a local shop that was willing to work on the KJ and to slot it in around other vehicles in exchange for a break on the labour. Here's what was taken care of:

I decided that if the transmission was going to have to be cracked off to get at the rear main seal anyway, may as well upgrade the torque converter and transmission oil pump at the same time.

Interestingly, although I'd been running Yeti's Stage 2 tune on an unknown torque converter and oil pump without any shudder, upon inspection the torque converter pulled from the transmission had a hairline crack in the housing. Despite not wanting to hit the credit cards any harder than I had to, it appears as though the decision to do some bulletproofing while the opportunity was there was the right one. If the torque converter had failed on the drive back... Ugh. There probably would have been a KJ CRD-shaped bonfire next to the side of some road.

Good for you, your Jeep CRD will love you for it! :-)r
Now you can upgrade to a higher torque/hp tune and not have to worry about TC slippage. :JEEPIN:

Added a pair of these before they become extinct and can no longer be found.
These are all metal. No plastic, found them on line for a decent price and ordered them.
Fit and finish was pretty good.

Got a phone call on Monday. The conversation went something like this:

"Hey, are you still looking for a set of TJ Moabs? We just found a set here at the shop that we forgot we had."

"Yep, but I can't afford them right now."

"Is 'free' outside of your budget?"

Needless to say, I was over there like a shot and picked them up. Got them mounted up today:

Image

Long story short, the shop was converting a work bay that had been used for storage space back to being a work bay, ran across these, and were going to send them for scrap unless they were picked up. Got lucky :SOMBRERO:

The proportions are a little odd right now due to the 225/75R16s still being on there. 245/75R16s should look a little better, but I'll live until these ones need replacement.

In-tank fuel pump (Carter P76148M) and Sasquatch wiring harness for the same were installed today. Took about 4 hours total, which I'm rating as pretty good for working alone in the driveway.

Seeing a minor improvement with some running issues that have been ongoing, but it's not the total fix. That said, it was going to need to be done at some point, so at least one potential problem area is likely eliminated.

Replaced the airbox-to-turbo hose with Sasquatch Parts' silicone hose; also replaced a damaged turbo-to-intercooler Samco with another Samco. The old one had rubbed on the air pressure sensor to the point where a crack had developed, and I decided to do the airbox-to-turbo hose while I was in the general area.

FYI for anyone looking into the Sasquatch hose: it doesn't ship with an elbow to accommodate the CCV hose. This might not be a big deal if you can reuse the one from your old hose, but mine had a crack in it. This isn't surprising given that the elbow is right next to the heat shield for the turbo. Dorman 47043 fits perfectly and works great with the existing hose clamps. It's available at Autozone, etc.

Performance is... Perkier.

Those look really nice. Did you do any kind of rain shield under them?

I ran a set of Chrysler LeBaron Turbo hood vents on one of my XJs. They were extremely effective, and those remind me of them greatly.
