| Post subject: | rear windshield |
Last night my brother and I got into an argument regarding driving the Liberty with the rear windshield open. I said "no - don't do it", he however said "yup, do it. No big deal when you're just driving around town". Now I know that I've seen other people driving around like that in other vehicles, but not the Liberty. What's the consensus? |

I am guilty as charged...but only when I have the back stuffed with plants form the nursery. lol. I would not do it over 25mph because when the wind hits that glass it can force it down and well, I am not willing to take the chance in having it get thrown down into the closed position hard and shatter the glass....but that is just me. I would rather be safe than sorry |

I've driven with the liftgate open before. Not a big deal. Had to haul some carpet. Strap the window closed to your hitch or something so it not all the way open. |

I have driven an hour an a half on the freeway at around 70 mph with mine open and never had any issues. |

Yellocoyote: So no problems with the Chicago-land potholes? I'm just afraid that I'll hit a pothole, the windshield will come slamming down & I'll have a broken windshield to replace. Which would be very bad |

I sometimes do it depending on the tempature. I sometimes do it while trail riding also. I have little tiny clamps that I put on the rod so the window can't close while on the trail. If you put all your windows down and open the back one you get a lot of air movement. Terry |

no one is afraid of the exhaust gases coming up in from the tailpipe, used to be thats all you heard about on the old station wagons, Broncos, Blazers etc |

Yeah, I believe there's something in the owner's manual, or maybe there's a sticker somewhere, that warns against driving with the glass up because of the exhaust. But unless you're driving backward, it seems a bit paranoid to me. If you keep the front windows down shouldn't be a problem. |

Even though most of you on the reply have had no problems, my first advice is Tom is correct the aerodynamics on the KJ while traveling will circle the fumes into the rear area, the second is if you hit a hole or just a bump hard enough it will snap the window right off the hindges. It happen to one of my neighbors, whent to Home Depot loaded the back of the KJ, left the Tailgate open , not only did he loose the rear window, but the hole he hit also threw the rear hindges off where he coulndt close the tail gate. Just something to share!!! |

I do it all the time and nothing has ever happened at speeds up to 70mph. I wouldnt open just the rear window and no other windows though. |
