Post subject:  PartTime light on when driving in 2 wheeldrive.EDIT: FIXED

When driving in 2 weel drive the Part time light is on, when shifting in 4HI nothing shows, when shifting in neutral, Full Time comes on and when in 4Lo full time also is on.

It looks like some switch that operates the dash lights for the 4x4 system has shifted position and is showing what is next to what the tranfer handle is actually in.

It looks like the transfer case position sensor went bad.

Is it easy to replace and if not replaced are there any problems with airbags shutting off and ABS not working because it could think it is in 4LO while it is not?

I found this so far:http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34345

Thanks.

No suggestions, but I have read of others with similar problems. I recall a couple of member saying to just ignore it. Sorry I could offer more help.

FIXED

I took out the tranfer case position sensor (wrench 36 or plumber wrench) it's a bit difficult as there is not much space to move, I cleaned the piston on the sensor by soaking it in WD40 and by pushing the piston in and out for a couple of minutes.
The first time I pushed the piston I could feel the spring inside grindin a bit, after WD40 it moved smoothly.
And after I fitted the sensor again everything was back to normal.

The sensor is fitted on top of the transder case so it is a bit difficult for the transfer case oil to lube it and it will dry out and starts giving out wrong readings.

You can find the drawings for where to locate the sensor and how the sensor looks in the following link: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34345
