Are they the "Option" tow hooks as pictured in the pdf link above? Or are they the factory installed ones your purchased from somebody and do not have the "M" bolts? BIG difference on the install. |

Universal tow hooks, Would have got them from the dealer but they wanted a 140 dollars just for the front. Haven't had a chance to get to it yet. Any ideas? |

What are "universal" towhooks? For the KJ there are only 3 kinds. The factory installed, the option hooks for the dealer to install (PDF install sheet linked above) and the single rear hook. If you got these someplace and they listed the libby as a fit please give us info on where. My bet is, to be kind, that you got screwed and or bought the wrong hooks. If they do not have the base plate like the ones pictured in the PDF link, they will not fit. |

not to say they can't be made to fit, lots of people have tried. Look for some used ones in the for sale section. some come up for sale all the time. The find out if they were factory installed or dealer installed. |

look for the Mopar hooks on eBay. you can find them cheaper than $140. Aww, what the heck, I did it for you. Shipping included under $100. This is where I got mine, IIRC http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-07-Jeep-Liberty-black-front-tow-hook-NEW-OEM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1075Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1318QQhashZitem350086600615QQitemZ350086600615 |

Sounds like you're talking about the inexpensive tow hooks rated at 10k lbs each, they have a couple holes in them for mounting, you can get them most places for aobut $10 each? If so, then you might be in for more than you bargained. I have heard of a couple people who have used these, as soon as they tried to use them they twised the frame, and I think one guy had it tear off the frame from pulling sideways. The only reason they do this is the very small contact area with the frame. the frame on the KJ isn't very thick, it's formed steel, but not like a truck frame or anyhting. You could make it work I but, it would just require getting some flat bar steel to make backing forthe hooks. It probably would work pretty well that way. Make a peice for each side of the frame (inside and outside). they would act like huge, thick washers and spread out the forces a lot better that way. 3/16" steel would probably work pretty well for that and would not be too hard to fabricate, nor cost you much more. |

If you find them in a junk yard you can get the M Bolts from the dealer. It's probably not worth trying to get them back out if they're stuck in there. |

The m-bolts should come out fairly easily. Mine did when I took my hooks off for an ARB bumper. |

The best deal I found was through "chryslerwinona" via ebay. Price was right and he was the closest seller to me in Northern Illinois. Parts to arrive in a few days. Looking forward to it. |
