A really good tire salesman...

I stopped into a local GoodYear tire center recently to see if i could sneak a peek at some MT/R's. I was looking into getting the Moab wheels and MT/R's for my Libby and just wanted to see some in person before i whent ahead and dropped God only knows how much money on them.

So i stopped in to see if i could get a price chart or something and when the lady asked if i needed help i said "no." I was looking around, and hadn't yet figured out that they didn't have any MT/R's on display. So a few min. later i go up to the counter and ask "do you guys have a price chart for the MT/R's i can look at?" She goes "no" and turns around. I say to myself....hmmmm....ok then...then she turns around (a wise decision) and asks, what size are you looking for. Now, as my jeep isn't lifted yet, i just blurted out the stock tire size, which prompts, "well they don't even make MT/R's that small, what are you driving." I said a Liberty and she procedes to tell me that the Liberty isn't really meant to go off-roading and that i would need at least a 4" lift to get it off-road. Then she comes right out and tells me that if I really wanted to wheel that i should just go buy a Wrangler. I'M A 17 YEAR OLD KID, DOES IT LOOK LIKE I CAN AFFORD ANOTHER CAR PAYMENT?!?!?!? Needless to say, i was pissed, and decided to walk out before i did something rash. So, now i'm looking at some Bridgestone Dueler MT's, anyone have an opinion on these?

Anyway, i thought you guys would get a kick out of this story, feel free to post up some pics of your Libbys at their best offroad, i'm debating making a collage to staple to her forehead.

I got a set of BFGoodrich Mud Terrain's and love them. You should seriously look into a set. Great Tires!

That sounds good to me. I have MTR's also but no 4" lift.

Go back and ask to talk to her manager (if she isn't the Mgr). Tell him/her that you did not appreciate the comments she made. You might get yourself a sweet deal out of it.

Print off some pictures from our website of KJ's offroading and leave them with the store so they can LEARN something before shoving foot into mouth.

If you really want the MTRS, then do it. Don;t let some fool broad sway your mind. I got mine from tirerack.com, too. They had the best prices including shipping. Much better than any deal locally.

my only issue is my income, i'd love to have the stock Rubi wheels and tires, but at almost $2000, not to mention, mounting, ballancing, alignment and a lift to get my KJ over those meats is not gonna be cheap, unless the clevis lift will be enough to sqeeze the MT/R's under my rig.

I've gotten 2 sets of MTR's from Rubicon guys that were upgrading for 400-450 for all 5 with less than 3K on 4 of them and zero on the spare.

I've also paid 550 for a set of 5 Rubi wheels and tires with about 4K on them (although I spent about a hundred bucks on gas to go get them).

There is NO reason to spend over 750 bucks on a full set of Rubicon wheels and tires with less than 10k miles on them (more like 2 to 5K on them ).

Check online bulletine boards of rubicon clubs....there out there folks you can find them !!

Given:

1) Hobbyists tend to talk amongst themselves a lot
2) Off-roaders typically spend a LOT of cash on high margin tires
3) This clerk just turned down business from an off-roader

Conclusion:

This clerk just lost a lot of profits for the store.

Pointing this out to the manager wouldn't hurt any.

OK, got kind of a dillema going on, i've been looking into some tires and i have it "narrowed down" to about 6.

Please take a look at the following ones and give me your opinions, feel free to make any suggestions...for the most part i will probably be driving on-road, but i want a more aggressive look and the capability to go off-roading when i get the chance. I'm not too worried about tread life, but it'd like something average, i probably won't be paying for these tires so, price isn't a huge concern, but i also don't want to make my dad spend $300 a tire. I'm thinkig about installing a small lift, something relatively inexpensive, I know the clevis lift is free, but i don't know if it lifts both ends of the truck and i don't know how much rise you get out of it, so if anyone knows please let me know. Also, if someone has a link to a photographic walkthrough of the clevis lift that would be greatly appreciated. So, if you have any reccomendations, please let me know, assume that i will be looking for tires that i can clear with a clevis lift and some MINOR trimming, such as trimming the plastic around the pinch weld and then pounding it down.

As you can see, with the exception of the Dueler Revo's, i really like an aggressive tread pattern, i only threw the Revo's in there b/c of their great reviews and practicality, thanks again for your help

Those are all great tires but it depends on your preference and how much driving you do, etc. If you don`t mind tire noise (especially irritating on long trips), a bit lower gas mileage, and love the looks, go for the more aggressive look of the MTR`s/BFG`s. If you like a quieter ride with a bit more gas mileage, go with the "more street looking" Revo`s. I have the Revo`s and they are awesome in all conditions and are great offroad as well. No matter which you choose, they will all perform well. It all boils down to what you want and what you feel you need.

Bridgestone and Yokohama both make a mean AT and a mean MT. you can't go wrong with either of 'em, MHO.

Ok you I dont have an opinion on which tire to go with but i like to have fun so my suggestion is to grab a 2006 liberty brochure from the dealer and take it back with you and show the saleman that jeep has put a seal of approval on offroading the libby....and tell her that you want the MTR's or something similuar...
