What do you recommend I use to clean and prep my rails for paint? They have a lot of tape on them so I am sure there will be some glue and my rack also seemed to have a bit of oily residue. I am going to shoot it with Hammered so I don't think I need to primer it. I just don't think I should leave oil and glue on there either. Thank you. |

I went to Wally World and bought "Goo Gone Xtreme". I bought it because unlike regular Goo Gone, it's Xtreme and in a shiney metal bottle. Unless anyone know a reason not to use it, I am going to try it tonight. |

I used "Vandalism Mark Remover" and followed up by wiping that off with rubbing alcohol. Since the mark remover is made to remove paint, I didn't think it'd be a great idea to leave that on before painting. ![]() |

Go to any bodyshop shop supply store and ask for a can of metal prep or wax and grease remover it's cheap and you will get proper surface adhesion. Blowing the paint straight on to bare metal will probably work but you should really use a primer like Bugnout mentioned and make sure to wipe the primed surface down before you put the paint on as well. Good luck and make sure we get to see some pics. ![]() |

paint will not chip off as easy with a good coat of primer under it, primer adheres better to raw metal and then the paint bonds to the primer Key to any good paint job is preperation ![]() |
