Trailer hitch

As any one put one of these on your Liberty 2005??

2005 works the same as any other year as far as i know. Many people put hitches on their jeeps, very simple. got mine off of etrailer.com

Yeah they are simple. They just bolt to existing holes around the gas tank. Just hold the hitch up there, put the bolts in, and tighten 'em down.

i have a 02 and i am sure its the same on the 05. it took me half a hour to do it and the only reason it took me that log was because the nuts that are welded in the frame were fool of dirt and rust. if you have a gas tank skid it might take you longer just because the skid plate uses the same mounting locations. i went to wal-mart and had them photo copy a sheet of the instructions for me and it has all the info you will need.it had the bolt sizes and mounting with and with out skid plat.

just get under there and look at the frame rails on ether side of the gas tank. you will see 6 holes in the frame those are your mounting locations the nuts are welded to the frame and all you will need is a friend and a 15mm socket. i used lock washers and anti seize so they wouldn't rust in there location. after the first few times i towed my boat i checked and tightened the bolts. you can also look on the internet to find mounting instructions. i think you might find some on the traw-tight web site.

yea, it was very hard getting the bolts in. A good idea would be to find a tap and run it through the threads and then slap the hitch up. I also used anti seize on the bolts. i put some pb blaster in there to try and get them in easier, didnt really do anything.

YEp, so simple even I could do it myself. I've got the Valley Products hitch. Took all of about 30 minutes. Hardest part was holding it in place (it kinda heavy) and getting the first 2 screws started.

I just added a Hidden hitch to my 2002 this past sumer. I also had to run a tap through the holes to clean out 3 Ohio winters worth of crud. Got the tap at Sears Hardware for about $5. For anyone else out there wondering it's a 12m-1.5 thread.

i used a small wire pipe brush with pb blaster to clean them out and that worked great.

So the same bolts will work if someday I decide to get the gas tank skid plate?

Yep, same holes. If you can swing it, try and get the hitch and gas skid at the same time so you don't have to disconnect the wiring and take off the hitch later to install the skid. Not hard, just inconvienent.

I wouldn't use anti-sieze on hitch bolts. Usually when you buy a hitch the bolts have threadlocker on them already to prevent them from working loose because of trailering stresses. It would really suck for your hitch to come of while you're towing a trailer.

I had to resort to washing the threads in the frame with naval jelly to dissolve the crust and junk in them. Once they were cleaned up the rest was a snap. It would go faster with an impact wrench though.
