Post subject:  liberty seat question

Last weekend I slept in the back of the liberty while camping. It was fine but a little cramped. I wonder if there is a way to adjust the seat so it can tilt farther forward or better yet if maybe a folding 08 liberty front seat can be swapped into it?

When I sleep in mine I can slide the passengers side all the way forward, tilt it as far forward as it will go and have about 5'9" to 5' 10 " or so at floor level, how much do you need or do you get?

Not sure about the KK passenger seat... But that would be pretty cool to have.

There is no easy way to make the rear seats fold entirely flat.

I've thought about this as well. The only ways I can think of doing it is to remove some of the padding from the seats and have them reupholstered.

The other option is to cut and put a hinge in the front legs of the seats so they fold flatter. You would have to use a pin to keep them straight when in use. I tried unbolting them fromm the floor and seeing what type of improvement this would make. The seats did fold flatter, but they weren't flat.

End the end I decided it might create a safety concern and decided against it.

Ive always wondered if there was another front passenger seat that could be swapped in so a person over 6' could sleep in the back

not all the time, dictionary.com defines camping as "A place where tents, huts, or other temporary shelters are set up, as by soldiers, nomads, or travelers."

Do you use your back seat? If not do away with it. Here is a pic of mine. Tommud has a different version also.

I made a cushion that levels out the back area so I can sleep back there, diagonally, pretty comfortably. The rear had to be about 6" thick and I had the foam store cut a wedge tapered foam pad for the front passenger seat area.

I also made some screens for the windows to keep the bugs out but allow some fresh air in to prevent condensation. Those custom window screen kits from Home depot worked pretty well.

It's pretty nice just to be able to park it and sleep just about anywhere and have access to a power port for a DVD player or radio and an ice chest. Very light unpacking and packing, just wake up and go.

I'll post some pics later. What year is your Liberty? I think that they made some changes over the years. I used a level to decide how thick to buy the foam in the back. It was 6" thick in the back that tapers to 1" near the front.

I'm about 5'll" so it would be nice to have 2 more inches of head room. When my front passenger seat goes forward it maxes at near vertical, so there is definitely room to go farther forward. Just got to figure out what's stopping it from going any farther.

I bought some denim and had my mom make a cover for it. The wedge section has to be a little longer to cover the back of the seat entirely.

It works great as a sleeping surface, the high density foam feels like a real bed. A single sized bed cover fits it almost perfectly.

awesome thanks USPLibby! and it is 6", right?

Yes, 6" high density. The blocks were pretty close to what I needed at the store. They had to trim some of it and create the wedge but with the special band saw that they had it took about 2 minutes.
