alignment question

does anyone know if a lifted liberty needs a 4 wheel alingment instead of a 2 wheel because of a lift. the dealer said that 4 wheel alignments are not done on liberties but if there is a lift, then a 4 wheel aligment should be done. Is this really necessary? If so, what would be a good price and place to get it done? The dealer service ad says $80 for 4 wheell alingment but they said becuase of the lift it would take twice the time and thus cost around $160 :shock:

I'm thinking i'm better off going to a goodyear service place and getting it done--hopefully they wont double the price. I'm not sure if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one. Anyway---do I really need a 4 wheel alignment? Thanks

A four wheel alignment is news to me. After my lift I had the front toe corrected, that is all.

Perhaps a front wheel alingment is needed when the lift is initially put on, but a 4 wheel alignment is needed down the road. From what the guy said, he claimed that there are changes in the rear wheel specs due to the lift over time. Honestly, I think this may only apply to vehicles with large lifts and tires--a 2.5 inch lift with 245/65 tires is not what I consider large. Again, if anyone knows better--please let me know.

If my thinking is correct a four wheel alingment only applies to a front wheel drive. So no it does not get a 4 wheel alingment

first thing... if they try to double the price because of the lift and claim it will take longer, go somewhere else quick, they could mess it up just looking at it...

As for a 4 wheel alignment, there are no adjustments for the rear... All that will change is your wheel base, as thehigher you go, the lower the axle goes, and since the arms are one length, your rear wheels will actually come closer to the front of the wheel well.

So go some where else, it takes the same for a stock or lifted rig... My last alignment took 20 minutes max... oh and $20 I guess auto hobby shop is a big benefit!!!

I would steer clear of that dealer for ANY kind of service after those comments.

The rear, solid axle doesn't require an alignment... only the front end will require alignment to bring it back to specs.

As others mentioned, steer clear of this dealer since it appears he's willing to fleece you, thus making him untrustworthy. I'd also take any future warranty work and/or parts purchases to another dealer.

Take it to a reputable 4x4 or wheel shop for the alignment.

You should ask for a survey card or call/email Chrysler and let them know how that dealer operates.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll just stick with the front end then. It's amazing what some dealers would do for money sometimes.
