Post subject:  06' Dodge Ram Towing Mirrors on a KJ

Didn't think this is really a fabrication more like a modification. Since I bought an 05' Zeppelin Travel Trailer that my jeep tows around these days, I've been having a problem with extended towing mirrors. The RV is 8' wide and noone makes a good enough towing mirror to put on the KJ. When suddenly it hits me, just as an 06' Ram pick up rolls next to me in Dunkin Donuts.

Those mirrors are big, maybe they'd look stupid big on the Jeep. But... I'll roll the dice and taked my chances after I sized them up. Long story short I bought a pair of 06' power and heated mirrors brand new off Ebay.

Took me about three days to fab up the drivers side mirror. Lots of cutting and grinding with the dremel on the mirror base that is not the jeep. Templates made, a few new hole drilled and tapped. Bingo it bolted right on. Wiring wasn't too bad since I had the power and heat option already. Had to steal the harness out of the KJ mirror to make it plug-n-play. Some silicone and minor modification to the vent visors. It was done. Now for the passenger mirror that took about a day and a half.

Well personally they don't look as bad as I thought they would. Meaning size wise. Yeah they're big so I put it to the friend test. Looks like it came out a winner.

Had one minor problem with the wiring. Apparently the motor in the Ram mirrors has 4 wires in it and our jeep mirror motor only has 3. Even though the Ram mirror only has 3 wires coming out. When using the factory mirror control on the Jeep door the up and down motion on the mirror works perfectly. But the left and right motion is reversed. No matter which way I jumped the wires around I couldn't make it work properly. The way It's wired now is the only way it worked the best. So left makes it go right and right makes it go left.

Flipped those babies out, hooked up the trailer and off I went. These things work great. In their normal position the mirrors measure 7' 7" end to end, Flipped out they measure 8' 5" wide mirror end to mirror end. Nice having the heat work especially on the built in spot mirrors. Towing the trailer isn't a chore to see any more.

I'm going to take a few pics on Thankgiving day but I have no way of downloading them here on friday. Anyone up to the task of having me email them to you so you can post them here... That is if anyone is interested in seeing how they look.

I finally got the pics. There are about 6 in total. So if anyone is interested in seeing The Big Dodge Ram Towing Mirrors on our KJ. I'll email them to someone who can post them on here... Let me know. I beleive someone called it the dumbo KJ, now that was funny... LOL. See and judge it for yourself.
All joking aside for a second. Not only do they function great flipped out as a towing mirror but folded down it's a world of differance seeing behind you with these babies. Joe

Very Neat mirrors. I thnik that they look alright on your jeep with all the accesories they look like they belong on it. Any of the other Jeep Mirrors better than the liberty's. A different Jeep mirror may not require so much customizing. Just a thought, I do have to say the Liberty mirrors are very small and almost useless.

They look great, I agree that the stock mirrors are small and suck. How do the handle at highway speeds, any vibration/noise???

I'm not noticing any noise from the mirror. There is a very slight vibration which I expected due to their size but nothing annoying or eye boggling. Even flipped out in towing mode they are very well mannered. There's a whole new world back there that I wasn't seeing with the stock mirrors.
