I had LT235/85R16 on stock rims on and shimmed out the carrier with washers to get the glass to open. Now I have LT265/75R16's mounted on Moab Rims could take all the washer's out and have plenty of room yet.

what is the biggest tire you can fit on the tire carrier and still be able to use the glass flipper? will a 245/75 clear it? or would you need to buy a spacer for it if you have 245/75 and could post a pic or two of it that would be great! |

Depends on the wheel and tire size. I have more space now with a 31 than I did when I had the stock spare on. |

Like incubusmike and tommudd experienced,when I ran my spare on my rear gate I had plenty of room with 265/75's mounted on 16x8(3.75" BS) and 16x7(4.5" BS) rims.Just be aware that the rear gate will start to sag after a few months from the added weight since,at least in my '02 manual,the rear tire carrier is only rated for 50lbs. |

I haven't noticed any sagging in my door yet and I have my hi lift on there as well. I am sure it will eventually though. Gravity always seems to win. |

I have a 245/70R17LT Silentarmor on a 17" Limited alloy rim. I had to add about 7/16" worth of spacer (washers) to make mine clear. The added backspacing of a Moab or even a Cragar Soft 8 would eliminate the need for a spacer. Also, no sagging on my rear door, yet, either... Had the LT on for over a year now. |

Somebody in another thread also mentioned that if you turn the carrier upside down, you get a little more room between the glass and the tire. |

I have about 1/8" clearance with the BFGs.

I saw a product at Rocky Road Outfitters that extends and raises the spare tire mount to accomodate larger tires and still be able to swing the rear glass open |

You are correct. I think it is around....$30 for it. You just have to stop and think about the sagging too though. I am not sure how long it would take before it really became an issue but once it did it could be a fairly costly one to remedy. |

I flipped the spare mount and shimmed it with a few washers in order to clear my 245/75s. 
Here's the clearance gained by flipping the carrier.

i have a 265/75/16 on my stock renny wheel hanging back there... i shimmed it out with a lot of washers (4 between gate and carrier.. and 3 between carrier and wheel) and the glass still hits.. but the tire no longer hits the bumper on the bottom. |
