I read a discussion on here (I think) once about putting a 02 TC in a 05 KJ, just can't find it. If I could get one really cheap would it work? They are geared lower so if it would work it would be great!

You can swap a 231 from a '02 to a '05 that had a 231,same goes for the 242 t-case.Now if you swap from a 231 to a 242 is where some mods will be needed.

Oh and they all are geared the same,1:1 high and 2.72:1 in low no matter the year.

The 02 I had when put in 4Lo it would just creep along. When you let off the gas abruptly it was like hitting the brakes. My 05 in 4Lo isn't as drastic. Wouldn't that seem to be lower gearing in the 02.

idle speed may have been different plus the 02 has a different trans than the 05 so depending on idle speed, what gear you had it in etc would effect the ground speed

The trans is what is different, the 45RFE has a lower 1st gear ratio then the 42RLE does.

If it were a direct swap with no computer issues it would be worth it.

Depends on what you think it is worth changing, for me not unless mine went out and I had a 02 laying here ready to go in , other wise run it in the ground
