They are putting a Hemi in a TJ. Along with a 5 speed transfer case! The transfer case sticks out so far from the tranny that they are putting a support on the end of it.

No I didn't. It was an Atlas but could have sworn they said 5 speed. They said it was the only "out of the box "X" speed". The transfer case support sounds like a good idea. They said some people that didn't have it were busting the transmission housing. How would you like taking a spin in the thing?!!!!

Reread your post, missed the first part where you said "They are putting a Hemi in a TJ". Guess it skipped over that part.

Anyways, here is the transfer case they put in: http://www.atlas-tc.com/

It a 4-speed Atlas 4-speed with a final gear ratio of 5.44:1.

Quote:
The Atlas 4sp is offered with two different low range ratio sets. The first configuration has low ranges of 2.0:1, 2.72:1, and 5.44:1.

A friend of mine is trying to talk me into dropping a Hemi (a real Hemi motor mind you) in my KJ. But if I did, I would most likely use one of these new (cough, cough) Hemi crate motors from Mopar.

the dealership I boght my KJ from is owned by a gentleman that has a large collection of mopars, they do not advertise it but the do a lot of restorations especially Muscle Mopars.since I own a "Real Hemi" I asked on dropping one in the KJ beleive it or not they said no problem. but I could have bought another KJ by the time I was done. the point is that you can drop any engine in any car or truck, and there are a few selected shops across country that excell in this. Its all comes down to how much $$$ you have. I had a 1971 toyota Land cruiser F40 with a rat 396 block, we took the Toyota emblems and replaced them with "Toylet" For Toyota/ Chevrolet. So if you want a Hemi in your KJ save your $$$ :D

If your going to try and put a old school HEMI in a KJ,which would be pointless since it would render the unibody to weak from all the cutting needed, migh as well put a HEMI worth putting in something.............

Like the all aluminum 572 HEMI crate engine.

Alot lighter then the cast iron 426's and way more power, only about $30,000.Plus I doubt even the OME 790 coils would hold up a cast iron 426.

I know the cheapest you can get a Hemi in a JK from AEV is 31,250 but that includes 35" tires, IPF lighting, new gears, front bumper, new hood, steel body corners and a few other things. So I know the KJ install would be cheaper for just the engine, but without a SFA under there, there is no way I'd want that kind of power spinning my tires. And at the cost of the engine and install, I'd much rather have something else.

You make a good point regarding the powerband created by this or any big block motor (hemi or not) in a KJ with stock drivetrain behind the motor. Which reminds me, the 426 wasn't the only early model Hemi motor. There are companies building 392's today. For those of you not familiar with this Hemi, that was the engine of choice for (front engine) dragsters, fuel altereds and funny cars in the early days (1960's). They made incredible power.

Am I right to assume that isn't buying the Jeep from them with the Hemi already in it?

That is the cost on top of buying the jeep.
