This is strange Jcs, I was looking at the exact muffler over at JEGS (PN 289-17715) last night but they are a dollar more at JEGS! |

I had one,sounded very good(identical to Flowmaster 40 seris).I switched to the MagnaFlow ultraflow race muffler for space reason for the upcoming build.The Thrush is a great muffler,cheap and sounds good,not like those angry weed eaters. Below is a pic of the Thrush and the MagnaFlow mufflers. 
Not so great sound clips of the 2 mufflers,the car port I'm parked under rattles and vibrates real bad when I start my KJ,stupid tin roof.

I just ordered one and have it in my garage. I got the longer body one (PN 17718) from Summit. The 20" instead of the 14". I wanted a little lower tone and figured the extra length would give the lower tone. My Dynomax intermediate pipe should arrive on Thursday so I can just bolt it up and go. I'll put it on this weekend and try to post pics and sound clip so everyone can compare the shorter one that everyone else has to the longer one I got. BTW: Props to tjkj2002 for pointing me to the intermediate pipe for an easy install. It is a 6" long x 2.5 in diameter pipe with the stock KJ exhaust flange already welded on and 2 studs pressed in (M10x1.5 threads in case you need to get new nuts like I did). Just for everyone else's reference, it is Dynomax PN 51002 or Walker PN 52422. Summit was going to have to back order and be a couple of weeks, so I found it in stock elsewhere.

Jsc7002 and long_tall_Texan, both mufflers that you guys are looking at have an offset inlet and center outlet, which is reverse of what you want isn’t it? |

I have the exact same setup as tjkj had w/ the thrush. It sounds deeper in person, and isn't too bad of a drone at all. Never knew about that one exhaust piece being available, I'll have to get that sometime. |

the Thrush Turbo mufflers are designed and advertised to be bi-direction for instalation flexibility. You can use either end, center or offset, as the inlet or oulet - whichever suits your particular needs. |

I’ve had mine now for about 3 months and I’m really glad I gave it a try. I didn’t want to spend $$$ on Magnaflow or Flowmaster; they are pretty much selling you the brand. I paid $24 for the muffler and gave a buddy $20 for the install all in all I spent a total of maybe $55 for the entire thing including parts. |

The thrush doesn't have as much interior drone as a flowmaster does. I have a Magnflow on my Tahoe, not as loud, but much better sound than the flows...IMO. I just replaced a Flowmaster on my Dad's FS truck cause of the drone, put a Thrush on there and it's still got some volume and sounds good, but his 78 yr old ears can hear again. |

I had a Dynomax Superturbo ready to go on at one time, but didn't end up putting it on. My dad's got one on his truck and it sounds really good, I'll probably end up trying it sometime after the thrush has run its course. |

I installed the muffler this weekend. I really like it. I got the longer one (17718). I think it is quieter than the shorter (17715) Thrush Turbo muffler. It has a nice low rumble at idle. Almost sounds like a small V8. Then it gets louder up to about 1500 RPM. The loudest is between 1200-1500 RPM. Then it quietens down by the time you reach 2000 RPM at highway speed. Not loud at all on the road. No droning... Here are a couple sound clips. They aren't the best quality, but it is better than nothing. From under the car:

The dyno showed an increase of 7 horsepower and 18 ft/lb of gain. Dave said that he didn’t do any before and after fuel economy testing, but he seems to believe that there is a fuel increase. He also noted that the vehicle seemed very responsive after adding the muffler. Also, the muffler isn’t loud inside the cab, however it becomes more noticeable when the vehicle is under load or going up a steep grade. Obviously, as seen in the photo, this is a straight through design and not an offset which I like.
