that is the magic number to get the jeep fixed! not sure if i shared the story of what happened... went to a party in the springs in the middle of nowhere. i get in the kj to start it and all the warning lights come on but no cranking then everything goes blank. ok, kool ill just use the roadside assistance program. well not quite. jeep dosent cover jump starts or anything for that matter, so i paid some rude huge guy $51 to tell me that the battery was beyond a jump start and that i needed a new battery. i know theres a checkers auto about 6 miles away from where i am but to get a ride from teh tow truc guy would be an additional $45 on top of the battery costs. so i put on my gloves, hat and coat and walk the 6 miles to the checkers. i walked about 6 miles back with a 25-35 pound battery... get back to teh jeep and remembered that i dont have any tools. i wont say what i used but there wasnt much skin left on the tumb and index finger. the jeep starts up fine but since that is my 3rd jumps start i know its going to happen again so i call jeep the next morning and they say bring it on in. i tell them and they say we are going to have to tear this thing apart i say go ahead. they give me an '08 ford focus se sedan. last night i get the call saying that the PCM computer has water damage to it... your computers in the car are shot... its going to be about $5,290 to replace all of them and that includes labor and parts. i go to the dealer and they explain to me whats happening in better detail and they show me the computers and yea they are torn up pretty badly. they tell me that a chrysler rep actually was called out to look at this odd ball case and he reported back to chrysler corp that the kj had been abused in off road conditions, so it wasnt covered under warranty. the service rep tells me hes sorry and they can start ordering parts with a portion of the cost down. i tell him to hold on.... i bring in each of the factory wheels, i bring in the stock radio, it broke when i dropped it on the ground. i told the service rep i never want to see this vehicle in my life... i really like my 2008 ford focus!! the ford sync is way cool! |

I'm pretty sure we could drag that Focus through some pretty tough trails too so how about going wheeling? |

i would have stayed with the jeep before i got my liberty i was planning on getting the new opel / saturn astra. i loved driving the satra on the test drives and i test drove a Focus, the Focus i could not stand it was way too small and the way things were layed out on the dash and the bad blind spots just wanted me to rip out my hair ..... and that sync system i found to be crap and did not work right, i could go on and on about it but i won't |

no thanks. if i didnt trade it in now it was going bye bye when i got back from my deployment anyway. i actually think the focus is perfect for me and teh sync system works brilliantly and responds to my voice commands and syncs flawlessly to my blackberry so im glad you didnt go on and on!! |

So no more WAVE EDITION KJ? Man I am sorry to hear the problems you are having with that dealer and your computer. How did you get water damage in the computer? Don't even tell me you went though a puddle or two. I have had the KJ under alot of water and never had any problems with my computer. I had water go in the air box but not emough to have any problems. PLUS, I cleaned it as soon as I got out of the DEEP WATER!!!!! Problems with my spelling? blame it on GUINESS and BASS ALE! |

yea this has me worried too. I've been in deep water, fast through a little water, mud you name it. I do clean it up when I'm done but what gives? Did you submarine? Or, is Jeep just feeling the woes of Chrysler and doing everything they can to not pay claims so they can save money. I’m sorry to here about your problems but at least it sounds like you’re happy with the focus. Maybe you can turn it into a rally car and at least have fun on some fast dirt road fire trails. |

that is ecxactly what it is becuase even the dealer was confused. they said "the chrysler rep said that your jeep was in great shape to see the days of offroading, even your ball joints were in great shape still. but when he wrote up his observation report he said he found signs of abuse but he never really said what they were" ... |

I am pretty sure that the new Focus is a far superior vehicle to the 2004 version had. For me, the 2004 Focus became a 2005 Liberty as part of a lemon law mediation over what a pile my Focus was. |

Well, it sounds like you have something that works for you right now. Hope it all works out. If nothing else you can ride shotgun in someone else's jeep on the trails. What? You want that bad luck shotgun riding with you? |

wow, $5200 to replace a PCM. That seems a little steep. For that much money i'd be tempted to take it somewhere else or DIY. At work i drive a saturn astra xr. i just got winter tires on it. it is fun to drive and works great around town and on highway trips. Smoothest car i've ever driven. The kj gets used mainly for camping and off roading. |
