So I cracked the "poo poo" out of my front bumper on the trail...and then I hit a rock head on. Whoops! So anyways, after having my parents freak out on me for an hour I showed them a website to buy a replacement bumper, only $240 (which I'm paying, duh!). I am ordering the bumper soon, and got .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) instructions on the removal and installation of the bumper, which were actually made for the installation of a front hitch receiver. After I get the bumper and plastic rivets for it, I should be set back about $300 max. Here's the address of the website I'm getting the bumper from, for those that are interested:
http://www.bumpers.com/productJeep.html
Now my Mom, who tells everything that I do to her co-workers, says that the guys at her work say I should be careful to not deploy the airbags, cause it's ~$2000 to put them back in. Is this of any real concern? I know well enough to not put a sledge to the front bumper, but that's just common sense! I just wanted to check before I went ahead and did the removal/install. Thanks in advance for any reassurance!

The sensor for the air bag is not in the bumper on a KJ. It will not deploy by dealing with the front bumper at all. It also has to see a very hi g force before it will deploy. The sensors are mounted on the radiator support. Hope that helps. Later...clint

Not really a concern. If they didn't deploy when you hit a rock they shouldn't deploy if you hit them with some tool. I installed my ARB and never had a problem.

To keep mom happy you can disco the batter while the new one is going on and reconnect when done.

Have you bought that bumper yet? I have a gray one that will fit a 2002 to 2004 Liberty Sport I'll sell you for $100 + you pay shipping from Utah. I replaced it with an ARB. E-mail me if interested. Wasatch15@aol.com

Thanks....Ron

That is a great deal but I have a 2003 Limited, and a gray bumper would look just plain silly. Sorry.
