Brake controller on Liberty

Post subject:  Brake controller on Liberty
My Liberty came with tow package with 7-pin wire harness. I have a brake controller that I took out of my truck before I sold it and would like to install it in my Liberty. I went to etrailer.com to shop for a Jeep adapter but no luck. Who has a brake controller installed and is there a connector under dash to hook controller to or does it have to be spliced in?

The above will get you the wire that connects to the blue wire out of your controller. The rest is hard wired to your needs. (No quick connect plug, unfortunately)
Red wire out of controller is cold brake light switch, gets power when brakes are applied.
Black is 12V power directly from battery with an in line fuse 20 amps min.
White wire from the controller is ground to the negative side of the battery.
I put my Journey HD Brake Controller in that cubby under the radio- A/C controls.
The Jeep has a swing down knee knocker panel making it very easy to access wires.

Check on page 8W-54-5 of the KJ Shop manual. I actually got a link from this forum and downloaded it from the web.
This page applies directly to a brake controller. :D

Can someone provide the link here??

Thanks for the info. I had done a search on brake controllers on this site but didn't find anything about a factory-provided connector like some other vehicles have so I guess I will end up hard wiring. I did find several links to the jeepkj site but it has been down for some time.

It is not hard. Just be sure to wire in a resetable curcuit breaker in the system. This will prevent a blown fuse from killing your trailer brakes. Also be sure the controller is mounted somewhere easy to access for emergency stops, and make sure it is within specs of the model and brand for level. I had to mount mine on top of the dash on the left side above the vent. I placed the reset for the breaker in the trim above the bolster by the steering wheel.

That's a new one for me but sounds like a good safety feature.

Are you talking about making sure the controller is compatible with the vehicle or the controller and breaker are compatible?

This is an FYI for anyone with a 2007 KJ. I was wiring in my brake controller and went a-huntin' for the elusive "blue wire." After digging through the harness behind the white panel, I could not find any solid blue wires. What I did find was that the brake controller wire was a solid red wire that was tied up at the highest point in the harness. It had the "Brake Controller" label on it. I don't know if this is going to be true for all 2007 Libertys but it was in mine. Maybe they ran out of blue wire the day my KJ was built.

Wow, this got bought back, guess I missed this question...

I am refering to level with reference to the ground. Many controllers work of of an inertia shift to apply emergency lock up, and the instructions will tell you. many of the better ones will self level internally, but some will not. Mine had to be at no more than a 20 degree angle
