Has anyone installed a block heater ? Is it a pain in the  ?
It gets below 0 degrees all of jan and feb here, think it is worth it ?

Mine came equipped with a block heater, so IDK how hard they are to put in. BUT if it gets really cold there it's definitely worthwhile having one. I don't know of any vehicle in this area that doesn't have one, it's an "option" that everyone gets.

I’ve thought of doing this to mine. I installed one for my old Montero a few years back and it was pretty easy and straight forward.

I noticed mine was leaking this summer. How are these put in the block?
My neighbor said they usually screw in but I couldn't see how that could be done....I'll have to check again.
Only time I use mine is if it's going to be -25 degrees Celsius (-13 F) or colder...so maybe 2-3 per winter...this is my first winter with the KJ though.

I just saw on the net how they go in.
Kinda like a drywall anchor....put it in the hole, turn the screw...there's a set of "wings" on the inside, that snugs up against the block as you turn, pulling the heater and o-ring into the opening until it's tight.
Gonna check mine this weekend to make sure it's tight....maybe I just need a new o-ring...which would suck since I would need to drain the coolant just to do it...it's no fun working on a vehicle when it's minus cold outside....

yup, that's how it's done. Mine is underneath the motor...passenger side.

Thanks everyone. I talked with a friend who use to work for JEEP, and he said it is a royal PITA to install, and recommended letting the dealer do it....

huh, can't see why, it's right there when you look under the motor.
Drain the fluid, pop the frost plug out with a punch or a screwdriver then put the heater in and turn the screw till it's snug, fill the coolant back up.
Maybe he installed it in another spot which might be hard to reach. Call a few dealers ask them what they charge.
I called 3 dealers last week for an O2 sensor....$71, $68 and finally $65 the last place I called so I picked one up.

Reminds me of a mechanic that had quoted me 2 hours to change to heater core on my caravan which too me about 45 minutes start to finish DOH!
