Hey guys my dad is looking to either buy a new Liberty CRD 4x4 or a RangeRover.... Obviously as a jeep ZJ owner I am pushing him towards the jeep. He wants to know though if he can get the Liberty with leather. Any normal jeeper wouldnt care but he is a Boeing executive and has to have a little bling and decided that was a must. He got a Liberty crd 4x4 as a rental vehichle last week and loved how much pep it has and how tight it can turn. Thanks in advance

You can get a renegade with leather, too.

I have an 05 renegade with heated leather seats. Has the luxury interior and rugged exterior. It's nice to have the Jeep abilities without the "it's cold, loud, and cramped" wrangler feel. It's especially nice having a truck that can really handle the snow, and a nice rump-roaster to handle the cold passengers who just got in out of the snow.

If he wants a luxurious bling kind of SUV, I have to say the Range Rover is the king on that. The LR3 starts at $38,000, though, so figure add a few grand for things like leather. Don't even bother with the freelander, it's not luxury at all. Compare that to the Liberty - I got my renegade loaded with leather for under $25, special ordered, even.

The Liberty Limited CRD (22G) has leather. It is, like almost all other manufacturers, leather in the center of the seats only (high-traffic high-quality imitation on the edges). It is a wonderful truck, the CRD is priceless (to me), and the seats are very comfortable. I would not, however, compare my Jeep leather-trimmed seats to my friend's BMW Z4 all-leather seats (performance-car Italian calf butt-hug). I drove a Rover a while back and it's leather seats were ALL leather (very supple Italian leather). That was about 7 years ago though. Most manufacturers are only trimming their leather seats now (unless you spend more than $75k). I'm not sure what Land Rover is doing with their seats currently.

IMO: The vehicle you buy should be about impressing yourself. I bought the Jeep Liberty because it's an extremely comfortable, offroad-capable truck that gets great fuel mileage, has a the turning radius of a Mini, the torque of a V8, and can be run on BioDiesel. I passed on the LR Freelander because it seemed more name than substance and they don't offer a diesel here in America.

I am, however, basing this reply on the assumption that your dad is looking at the Land Rover Freelander, since it's the only LR that is in the Liberty's price/size segment. The LR Range Rover Sport bases at $57K and the LR Range Rover bases at $75K. If the Liberty is in the running against either of the LR Range Rovers, I would just automatically buy the Liberty. If you are shopping for a $75K vehicle and a $30K vehicle manages to turn your head...you've just found an AWESOME $30K vehicle! Buy the Jeep!!! Heck...BUY TWO!!!

The LR3 comes stock with leather I'm pretty sure. Either way, the LR3/Range Rover is in a different league than the KJ. As much as I would like to pretend that my little Jeep can compete with a LR, it just can't. I'm sure that it can go almost as many places as the LR's, but in terms of style and luxury Land Rovers in general take the cake by far.

I will tell you the leather in the jeep is cheap. You must put conditioner on them or that will crack for sure, and may still do it even if you do.

I had mine re-trimmed before delivery that way i chose the colour and quality of leather it cost me £1100 UK but was worth it as the BMW Montana hide is superb good 'n' thick heavily textured and every panel is genuine leather instead of just the facings.

In comparison to an RR a KJ is such a pleasant drive the RR is much more cumbersome to use. Nice but a bit BLARGH!
