If i have an LSD though, wouldn't that keep the wheels from spinning in the rain?

I've got an '03 limited and i'm trying to find out if it has traction control or not, a lot of times it seems like it doesn't (especially in the rain) but sometimes it seems like it does. I definately think the KJ has enough grunt to spin the wheels if you floor it off the line, but i've never had that happen, in fact, it seems to almost bog down until about 2K RPM. Is there any form of traction control in the '03 libby's and if so, is there any way to bypass it? Or does the KJ just not have the oomph to smoke the tires off the line? Thanks -savage- |

The only libbys to have traction control is 2006 libertys. So no, you do not have it. you could have a limited slip, it would say it on the right side of your axle, and if the sticker is gone, jack up the rear of your jeep and see if boths wheels turn in the same direction when you spin one of them by hand. |

Before I bought my Libby I was doing research.. That is when I noticed that NONE of the 2006 Liberties have LSD.. Which suprised me.. It used to be part of the Off Road Group package.. I asked the salesman at the Dealership about it and he said he didn't know... I almost bought this 2005 they still had on the lot but both my wife and I decided to go all the way and get the latest model... Has anyone wheeled a 2006 model to know if the Traction control works well off road? Thanks, Ben |

I'm pretty sure traction control wasn't meant for offroad. I've heard they just overwork themselves trying to correct all the traction issues when doing some decent stuff off-road. The only thing that'll keep your wheels spinning all the time (what you want, off-road) is a locker, or two. I'm pretty sure traction control won't do this. There are electronic lockers, I think the Commander has the option for a rear one. I think traction control is more of a marketing thing, not to say that it doesn't do anything. Joe Schmoe just likes to hear it so he knows his wife won't end up in a ditch when it rains. I know that if it helped a lot off-road, you'd see rock-crawlers with it, instead of something really useful like a 4:1 transfer case. Good ole' "part-time" and 4-lo, with the help of lockers here and there, got Jeep where it is today...ironically that's now "traction control"

Yeah.. I know what you mean.. I have a rear locker in my 95 YJ.. I am going to look at getting a locker for the Libby then.. I was just wondering about it.. I will say this about the traction control.. Right after we got the KJ.. We took a day trip to Myrtle Beach and on our way back our daughter decided to get out of her car seat.. I pulled off the side of the road into some grass at an angle.. When I was pulling back on the road, I goosed it in the grass just to see what it would do.. The traction control kicked in and did what it was supposed to do.. It lowered the RPMs, applied the rear disc brakes to keep it from sliding anymore.. I hope this helps anyone reading this.. Also.. they call it ESP which I can't remember what it stands for.. LOL.. Got to love marketing guys... Ben |

Are you able to disable the traction control with a button or is it disabled in 4-low. I heard of some 4-runner folks that pull the traction control fuse because it really limits your ability to wheel. |

SavageSS27, Limited slip will help to keep spinning down, but when it does spin, the rear end can kick out causing you to spin out. You just need to know how to counter steer, kind of fun when you mean to do it. Put it in full time if you have it and spinning will not happen in the rain. Eddo, traction control can be turned off i have heard. Ive yet to sit in a 06. Esp and traction control are 2 different things. Traction control keeps you from spinning tires. ESP keeps you from sliding sideways and flipping. Both standard on the 06 libby, also they get brake assist. From what ive read, it gives you all the braking power when you push the brake pedal really hard. also standard on the 06. I think all these things are great, it would be good in light off roading and light mud. But when you get a lift and bigger tires and get into the serious stuff is when it starts to mess up. Traction control and esp are great on the road in snow. I think traction control with esp would be better on road than a locker or ls. |

Not sure about the traction control but I can turn off the ESP.. There is a button behind the steering wheel... 
I will have to read more about it in the owners manual.. Been so busy moving.. Haven't had time to read the whole owner's manual... I know.. Bad Jeep owner!! Very bad!! Now go sit in the corner.. LOL Ben |
