Somethings wrong or......my tires got really loud

ok i know the MTR's are loud but holy crap recently it is soo loud in the jeep with sooo much vibration thru the dash and door pannels! Its like a reallllllly loud wub wub wub wub sound and gets louder with the speed of the car. Also having issues with the steering i know its cold here but if i dont let the car run for about 10 minutes i have NO steering. can only go straight after that amount of time you can hear the steering free up but if you turn the wheel its like a hum noise from the front as you make any movement in the wheel sometimes if the car is running and i get out you can hear the noise as i get out from the weight change ( I am a big guy 5 11 / 350lb) any idea what these problems are?????????

The sound from the tires could just be from not rotating your tires frequently enough. I usually rotate at leat every 5000 miles. I have heard that on aggressive tread tires (such as the MTR's) that you should rotate more frequently or they will get noisy like that. Vibration may be coming from unbalanced tire/wheel also. Check to see if maybe you lost a wheel weight, or just go have all 4 re-balanced.

The steering issue sounds like a power steering pump issue. Check the power steering fluid level. If it is low, that may be it, or if it is full, the pump may be bad and is not circulating fluid properly.

Sorry, but even cupped MT/Rs will not replicate the horrible sound of a bad hub assmebly.

I'm no expert, but my front BFG Mud-terrains started to get louder and make a wub-wub-wub sound at certain speeds. I noticed they were cupping. Rotated them and the difference was night and day!

If you aren't sure what the issue is, take it somewhere and get the hubs looked at. They do go bad and make a similar sound.

Tires do not cause loss of steering.

Maintenance tips
1. Rotate M/T tires every 3,000
2. Change your power steering fluid every 2 years with a good synthetic

Note: Wheel bearings are more likely to go bad if you do a lot of off-roading. You never know with wheel bearings. Some last only 40,000 miles and others might last over 200,000 miles.

check your rear end. when your rear diff starts to go it sounds like a bad hub assembly also. learned that the hard way from my mustang (rip :cry:

) youll get the vibrations your talking about and the wah wah wah wah wah sound.

I Bought the rotate and balance plan from my Hibdon Tires Plus for $12.75 a tire, which is good for a rotate and balance whenever I want for the life of the tires. By doing the balance every 3k and r&b every 6K, they told me i got almost 10k more our of my BFG AT/KO. I know, not the same tire, but that made a huge difference. I got 60K out of them.

I also purchased a one time alignment, which some might not know is good for 12k miles or 1 year. THAT IS AMAZING, b/c i would have to go and repurchase an alignment about 2x a year. Now, every 3K miles I get an alignment!!! TALK ABOUT FREEEEEEE!!!!

I was getting that same noise from my old stock wheels and cheapy tires. I got a set of used MOABs with Wrangler MTR that had good tread left. I was still getting the sound so I thought it was the bearings........since then, i have the front diff and halfshafts out and new bearings. Still got the noise. Rotated the tires and the nois is still there but a lot quieter. I should have known that with my luck I'd go through. all of that work and it would turn out that it was the tires after all.

MY MT/R's are so loud you'd think I had a textile mill in my back seat. Try rotating them, I bet that's the issue with the noise.

The steering thing has me perplexed.

MT/R's are not loud at all,I've heard passenger car tires that are louder then MT/R's.You want loud try a set of cut Interco Boggers

But then again I'm almost legally deaf.

lets put it this way if my radio is at half and im doin 60 i cant hear the radio at all. I really cant remember the last rotation i did guess ill start there

if it's THAT loud, you probably need a wheel bearing.

I've driven TJ Rubicons that haven't had the tires rotated EVER with 30k on the clock and they're not that unbearably loud.

Sidenote...that's where I usually get my MT/R's :lol:
