Hey everyone iv got a few scratches that iv found that arn't buffing out, I'm thinking of painting them but i'm afraid that it will end up looking like crap. has anyone here had to repaint anything, and how did it come out.... TJKJ is disqualified from this cause he simply repainted the whole thing lol .

If they are still visible after being buffed you can try getting touchup paint(dealership is the best place,or autobody supply store),apply the touchup paint with a small piece of piano wire.After it is dried lightly buff will 2000-3000 grit sandpaper(to leval the touchup paint),then buff out again.If that doesn't suit you it's time to get the panel repainted.It's best to reclear the adjacent panals to help blend in the new paint better to the old paint. If your familiar with automotive painting it shouldn't be hard yourself,if not it's best to have a good bodyshop do it.

are you going to keep trail riding your Jeep? why fix scratches when more are just gunna come? but if you really want to i would have a body shop mix you some paint and then take a flat mixing blade (one made of rubber) kinda like a mixer that you would use for bondo or whatever and then spread it on really thin. wipe off the extra paint and then do it again till the scratch is filled then do a clear over it all. thats what i used to do to cars when i detailed at a dealership. it works awesome. if you want to know alittle more indepth PM me. but i would never use any pre mixed paint. always have a body shop custom mix it. its worth the money to have it dead on. sun and fade change the color all the time and there are usualy 3-4 varations of the same paint to begin with. but if your gunna keep off roading it i woudl just wait till you want to sell the Jeep. |

Well eventually the area that they are on will be covered with linex but right now I'm more concerned with keeping them from developing rust. I really don't forsee selling it as I'm a bit of a pack rat and would be unbelievably sad to get rid of it. |

if its just gunna get covered over then just take a can of clear coat and seal over the scratches. i think a spray bottle of clear coat is like $3? maybe. and then when its time to liner over the stuff just scuff it up. then you dont waste money on paint that is just gunna get covered any ways and it will be a cheap rust stopper.

good point beep. I might just do that. If it ends up bothering me enough I can just claim it was in a hail storm and have it painted whatever color I want, right TJKJ? |

there ya go. its gunna be the most cost effective to stop rust. it should be just in a rattle can. just scuff the area with a light sand paper so it will stick. you should be able to get it at any auto parts store. and since you arent out to make a show car scratches are cool. plus chicks dig trail rash well all of then besides my girl friend who asks me why my Jeep cant be as clean as my Jetta was.
btw i dig that orange that is way cool. especialy since i used to be a euro car guys. farenheight VW = hawt. but that was a long time ago.....must have 4x4

I too must admit that I like the orange, if I had to repaint mine it would be orange but id probably have a metallic orange with linex panels and bumpers to give it a bit of a stronger two tone look than what TJKJ has going on. |

i think i would go with a lime green and black bumper/ wheels that would look phat. but my Jeep will stay Blue and Black for now...just like the Jetta. lol. i would rather mod it than paint it. good luck with the clear coat. it can get a bit messy so i would tape off the surrounding area so you dont get crappy over spray. |

yeah I'll just pick up a small can of it and try to control where it goes. probably just cover the area where the scratches are and see how well that looks compared to everything else. The parents are co owners of it still sadly so I have to be careful on some stuff. Although they have realized that I won't be selling or trading it in so degrading the value isn't an issue. Honestly I don't know how that works, we increase the functionality of the vehicles and such and then they tell us that we degraded the value by changing them from factory specs. |

i learned the hard way with my Jetta that a modded car is hard to sell. most people just want a bone stock car. so now i keep all my stock parts to hard to track down all those stock parts once you get 2-3 years into a car.
but yeah i would make sure to cover the areas you dont want spray on and then once it drys buff it a little and put some wax on it. that way it wont clump or look runny. rattle cans spray funny so alittle after work might be needed but if you take your time and do it right the 1st time it will look just fine. you should post some pics when you are done. you have a gorgeous Jeep and i am UBER jellous. i wish i had more disposable income to mod my Jeep right now but i cant get parts cheap enough especialy on the GF budget.

just realized I never said how I got the scratches. I hit a rock. it took the front right fender and a strip of the plastic on the bottom off. the flare is ok but that cheap piece of useless plastic shattered its clips so I can't put it back on so iv decided to remove it from one side totally and see if I like it or not. considering custom rock rails will be the first thing to go on i'm suspecting that plastic would have to come off regardless. |
