Hi there fellow KJ'ers....

Guys I m at mine and my mechanics wits end here and ANY help would be much appreciated.... I ll try and get straight to whats goin on....

A week ago I started the Jeep when it was -30 C to move it into the heated garage... It grunted but started, I backed it up into the street to move it in and she died... Had to use the ATV to pull it in. Let it warm up and still nothing. It turns over strong, and its a fairly new battery.. this is all i've done...

- fuel pump does NOT come on when you turn the key on
- there is good compression
-no spark
-there is fuel coming out the test port on the fuel rail, albeit slow and not pressurized.
-all fuses are ok both under the hood and in the cabin (incl. ASD)

my mechanic used his scan tools and for some reason the bus goes down intermittently, but not all the time. He is trying to isolate it to a module being bad much like a string of Christmas tree lights having one bad bulb but hasn't found it yet. (starting to lean towards the Sentry Key module)

Are we on the right track here? ANY help here guys would be great... you all know these things better than anyone....

thanks

D

It does sound like a computer issue

however 1st - even a 'fairly new battery..' could be a problem especially if it was out in -30C

the battery has to have enough voltage to turn on the computer, it may crank the engine below that - but it won't run.

the sentry key - tends to be start - run 5 secs and die - it's on a timer.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot the computer.

Check the crank and cam position sensors for shorts. Mine went out, and would not set a code, but made the engine die and was shorting the 5 volt rail so that everything went ape stuff.

Sounds like a bad BCM,possible bad PCM.There is a TSB for bad BCM's in some '02 KJ's.

hey guys and thanks for the replies... just got it back from the mechanics....along with a $925 bill.... after 15+ hrs of troubleshooting it turned out to be a bad grounding wire going into the PCM..... unreal. It would work 1 in 4 times.....once the wire was fixed, its good as ever.... I love this KJ but I swear this Liberty is like a super hot girlfriend that treats you like crap...
