since its so difficult to access the cylinder drain plugs would its be ok to disconnect the lower hose and run the engine for a second to pump the fluid out? let me know if this is a stupid question

No need to turn the engine on. Just pull the lower radiator hose and most of the coolant from then engine / heater core hoses / radiator and de-gause bottle will drain due to gravity. (just make sure the Jeep is level or have the lowest point be the nose of the Jeep)

And please only use Mopar branded coolant or Zerex G-05 (or is it prestone that makes G-05) There is significant differences in the formulation of the coolant chemicals from the standard stuff.

That's right...

Only get that stuff...

Google G-05 or HOAT sometime when you are board and read up on it.

well i guess since we're on the subject, are you supposed to run the heater full hot before you drain all the coolant out or does it matter before you put the new stuff in?

I wouldn't worry too much about the heater. If you really want 100% of the fluid to be exchanged, than head to the dealer or the oil change shop and get it swapped out there. But then again, the heater core holds a small amount of coolant when compaired to the engine and radiator.

I've never worried about the heater core side of things though. So far, no ill effects. Of course, I am only at 75K miles and have only needed 1 flush / fill so far on the KJ. [out with the Stock stuff at 60K miles, in with G05]

Did the Zerez G-05 stuff 2 days ago after 120,000 & 6 years I figured it was time. Also the radiator hoses were gettin mushy. KJ runs just a tick cooler now (of course, it's also 11 degrees here now!).

Be careful to purchase the HOAT stuff. Strauss tried to use the wrong stuff but I caught it.

Yea, taking the lower hose off is the easiest way to drain all of the fluid out. Make sure you have a nice big bucket to catch all of the fluid as it could go all over the place.

Some people like to use those little pet-cocks but I always worry about breaking it off or it leaking once I tighten it back. Best to just pull the lower hose and replace the t-stat while youre in there. Dont forget to replace both hoses.

Anyone every try to replace the heater hoses? Since there are so many hard lines what do you do?

Now that it's the morning, Are you sure you got the Libby put back together correctly?

On the heater core hoses... I've been thinking about those for a year now and I'm still not sure how we will be able to replace the rubber. I imagine, the dealership will sell the whole stinking assembly but as far as just the rubber...
