Post subject:  Oil leak and towing the KJ question

First time Jeep owner. Got myself a 2004 Renegade about 4 months ago. Was completely satisfied and had big plans for it until.....

End of December my engine compartment nearly caught fire thanks to an oil leak. Drivers side only, looking like it's coming from the block itself, definitely not an experts opinion though. I couldn't physically see where the oil was coming from, just based on where it was - no pics unfortunately.

Got my KJ towed twice in the last month, by different methods. First time I was told it had to be on a flatbed. Now today it got towed and the guy showed up with a regular truck. Put the front end on a dolly and off he went. Talking with people I am getting mixed information, some saying 4x4's need to be on flatbeds, others saying a regular pull is just fine.

So first time I got it towed to my garage and it was sitting there for 3 weeks before I got it towed to the stealership today - has an appointment tomorrow morning. In other words there was a 3 week wait time to get an appointment for service.

Any thoughts on either the oil leak or towing methods? Thanks!

Oil wouldn't be leaking from the block itself. Or lets hope not at least. That would mean that your block is cracked...

As long as the transmission and t-case is in neutral than there isn't anything to worry about for towing.
