Post subject:  EVIC outside temp broke.

So it was a nice 40 degrees outside today but the EVIC stayed at 23. Even after turning the car on and off it never changed. Before today it’s been 100% spot on. So, can I fix it and how would I do that? Or do I need the dealer to correct it? I have the extended warranty so maybe it’s covered? Anyone have an idea on the cost if it's not covered?

Thanks!

my guess would be the temp sensor in the top center of the grille, there about $30 from the dealer, and takes about 2 minutes to install. i think i heard the 05-07s have the sensor integrated into the BCM... also make sure the sensor is clean. id imagine if it had a peice of mud stuck to it or something it would throw it off.

today it was working fine (57 today!) should I be worried it will fail again or just don't think about it again until I need to? Yea, probably the 2nd one.

The EVIC was just trying to imitate a weatherman...with the same level of accuracy they have.

Mine gets stuck all the time and has since new. If I shut the Jeep off when its really cold then start it back when its really warm it does it. The other day it said 8F for along time even though it was in the 30's. It usually takes no longer than 15min to fix itself though.

the only time mine was ever stuck like that was down at livingston. the temp display does not update if you are not moving fast enough over a certain period of time to prevent heat saturation from the engine/radiator/condenser. this may be what's going on.

on my way to livingston, it was in the 50's and that was about that temp when we hit the trails. by lunch time it was hot and humid and it still read 53 degrees (it was in the 80's or lower 90's). once we got off the trail and moving it updated. I checked up on it and sure enough it looks for air flow over to get an accurate temp.
