I’ll be test fitting the first aluminum pan sometime next weekend.

The pan is finished and I should receive it in the mail today. The goal is to do the install soon. I’ll take plenty of photos before the install and after the install. The slightly deeper pan with cooling fins will easily fit under the factory skid plate.

do you have a temp sensor to take before and after temps to see if it makes a large enough difference?

Unfortunately I won’t have enough time to take any data. The Pan goes on tomorrow. According to PML, the Aluminum pan with cooling fins and the extra 1 quart capacity should reduce temperatures by 10 - 20 degrees. PML has done a lot of testing on a lot of applications, so I’m confident that the pan will be worth the cost. For that matter, I think the magnetic drain plug and boss for a temp sensor are also nice features.

It took 6.5 quarts to refill the transmission. Does anyone know how many quarts it takes to fill the factory pan? The service tech took a guess that the aftermarket pan held an additional 1.5 quarts but I don’t have a dip stick on my 2007, so we based the fill on the temperature. Anyway, the pan was a perfect fit. There’s plenty of room between the skid and the bottom of the aluminum fins.

LOL, thanks. My original post was on Feb. 9th, 2009, so this has been a work in progress for well over a year. It took me over a month just to talk David (Owner of PML) to consider designing these for the Jeep Liberty, Wrangler, and other 42RLE applications. Hey, at least now the transmission fluid can easily be changed without having to drop the pan or the skid plate. :pepper: And hopefully it will drop some temperatures. :pepper: I'm happy.......... :JEEPIN:

According to Wikibooks the service fill is 4 quarts so you've added at least a quart to the overall capacity of the transmission 8)

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Jeep_Liber ... _Intervals

Any word yet on a final price??? Are we still looking at the $200-~$250 range for this pan???

I'm interested in getting one for when I do the tranny service on my KJ a little later this summer

4 quarts? We added 6.5 quarts  Like I said, we based the fill on the temperature range. The aluminum pan didn’t seem any deeper than the OE, but the shape of the aluminum pan is more squared off and clear of protrusions and irregularities. I’d say the pan probably holds easily 1.5 quarts more. I’ll find out tomorrow on the final price.

What is truly sad is that according to Wikibooks, your not even removing 50% of the ATF fluid in the transmission during the service. Dry fill is 8.8 quarts. :?

Just to add, 8.8 quarts is only about 60% of the fluid capacity of the 545RFE which could definitely help explain the transmission cooling issues people have seen.

Maybe they should work to add even more capacity to this trans pan

Yes, and for this reason, the service tech recommended that you perform a drain and fill every 15,000 miles. This is why I like the magnetic drain plug feature.

The final price is $205.00 for the all cast finish and $250 for the black. Let me know if you are wanting to buy.
